    1. RE: [RICHARDSON] Seth Richardson
    2. Gary Richardson
    3. I have two Seth Richardson's in my line, but not enough info to follow them to NY. The first Seth was born 3 APril 1719 in Medfield, MA, the son of Joseph (b 1687) who was the son of John Richardson of Medfield (b 1650 in Wells, ME). This is the John Richardson of Medfield line, as chronicled by JA Vinton in his Richardson Memorial. Seth had a son named Seth, and at that point, I lose the trail. Mostly due to the fact that it's not my direct line, and I haven't chased it any further. Does this sound like your Seth Richardson line? I do have a number of ancestors who moved out to NY, in the area you described, I believe.... Gary Allen Richardson

My great grandfather was Seth F. Richardson (b. 31 Aug 1836 in Canton, St. Lawrence Co., NY) son of Seth Richardson (b. 20 Oct 1788 in Bennington, Manchester Co., VT) and Clarissa Farwell (b. 2 Dec 1797 in Vermont). Seth Sr. died in 1843 in NY but Seth F. and his bride, Orpha M. Blanchard, left NY for WI after the Civil War in which Seth F. served in the 50th Regt. NY Vol. Eng. Clarissa went with them to Wisconsin and d. 4 Oct 1874 in WI. Seth F. and Orpha first lived in Fond Du Lac where two (or three?) of their six children were born. They then moved to Markesan, Green Lake Co., WI, where their other three children were born. After the birth of the last child around 1875 they moved to Minnesota. Seth Sr. and Clarissa had more than six children but I only have information on four: Seth F., Hiram, John and Julius. Would be interested to know if you connect to this Richardson line. 3. Sorry, no. I have a few "Fairbanks" people in my data but almost a century too early and in the Sherborn, Mass area...and none associated with Richardson. Moreover, two-thirds of my women are named either Eunice or Mary, with not a Betsey/Elizabeth to be found! Do you have access to the 1835 New York State census to look for Betsey? That State census, combined with the 1830 and 1840 Federal ones, has been helpful to me. Good luck. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bob Strong" <strong@ischool.utexas.edu> To: <RICHARDSON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, March 20, 2005 1:43 PM Subject: Re: [RICHARDSON] Richardson & Webster Cortland, Ny to Monroe,Wi > Elaine & Ann, > > Speaking of long shots--do either of you have any Betsey Richardson in any > way associated with your NY John Richardsons? Marriage records, John's parents, etc. Any help will be appreciated. Also am interested in similar information of John and Letitia's son Jonathan who married Mary Nestor in August 1789. I would also like a transcript of the will of John Richardson, Jr., who died there in 1797. Emails directly to me will be caught in my spam catcher but I will be able to see them and add the sender to my approved list. Thanks, John Richardson

    3. Elaine & Ann, Speaking of long shots--do either of you have any Betsey Richardson in any way associated with your NY John Richardsons? May be simple coincidence, but my Betsey Richardson was the mother of Lydia Joanna Jones who married Benjamin Franklin Fairbanks in Chautauqua in the 1840s. Couldn't help noticing the Fairbanks name that is in the John Richardson lineage shown in the original message. Richardson may NOT have been my Betsey's actual maiden name; there is a possibility that she was married to a Richardson prior to marrying Joseph Jones and giving birth to Lydia Jones in the 1820s; it was a late in life birth for Betsey--she was almost 40. 2. My g-g grandfather, John Thomas Richardson (1820-1917) came to USA with his brother William. (maybe through Canada) from Liverpool. Their parents were John Richardson and Mary Ann Kelley Richardson. Brothers and sisters were: Ann, David, William. The two brothers lost each other in NY and never saw one another again. My g-g grandfather married Sarah Simons and after living in MI for a bit finally settled in Ford County Illinois where he started a quite successful grain mill. They produced my Great grandfather Nathan Seth Richadson and sisters, Florence, Amelia, Maude and Mayme. Nathan married Ella Miller whose offsprings were Wilbur, Faye, Floy and John Glenn Richardson (my grandfather who married Hazel Park) and had my father, John Glenn Richardson and his brother Gordon Park Richardson. Any info would be greatly desired. Thank you Judy Richardson Ramminger

    2. I happen to be subbed to the Cumberland, England mailing list through Rootsweb because of other family that I know came from that area in 1803. I often see messages relating to Richardsons on that list, although I haven't been able to link my Richardsons to Cumberland. The members of that list do a great deal of old newspaper transcriptions, etc., and the members are very helpful. My maiden name is Richardson. I have my line traced back to the mid-1700's but still haven't found a foreign-born ancestor. It might be worth looking at various English mailing lists. Sally Richardson Goehring

    3. David, Thank you for the hints on Canadian Richardsons and the possible migration from CT--I will be sure to look at those possibilities in the future. Since some of the related families in this line moved thru CT, that may be a real possibility Truth is, I am not even sure that Betsey's maiden name was even Richardson. The little info that I have on her shows her born in July of 1783. The only documented child of her and Joseph Jones was born around 1822, which means she was almost 40. I am seriously considering the possibility that she may have had an earlier marriage (before Jones) and that Richardson may actually be her first (or an earlier) husband's name. However, Richardson seems the logical place to start--so I am actually seeking widows as well as women whose maiden surname was Richardson. As to Wardsboro--I guess I simply assumed that most genealogists working in New England would recognized the spelling conflation, since so many of the NE "borough" towns have been truncated to "boro"--and particularly since the 1980 C. S. Streeter history of Wardsboro uses the contemporary spelling. But whatever.
