    2. I am a Richardson researcher like you. I was just adding to your statement: "I also found out that since I uploaded it to Rootsweb, it is showing in the Trees on Ancestry.com." Ancestry.com gleans information from the free sites on the internet. They have some of my research on their site that was taken from early queries. Fortunately, some of it is not correct. I also do not put my family research on any site unless I have to. I usually write directly to the person who requested information. Sorry to have bothered you. Nora

    3. I wouldn't be too hard on Ancestry, after all they own and operate Rootsweb.com In my opinion Rootsweb is the most useful genealogy website on the web and it's totally free! If Ancestry makes any money on the data from Rootsweb, I doubt it approaches the cost to maintain hardware, purchase bandwidth, and pay the employees that keep Rootsweb running. Just my 2 cents.. I am not an employee nor a current subscriber to Ancestry but I do appreciate the great free service that they provide via Rootsweb.com NBActon@aol.com wrote: > I am a Richardson researcher like you. 3. Hi Gary, Yes, Rootsweb wrote back and explained what I had to do to make updates and corrections. Since I know my name and password, I go right to my tree. Like a dummy, I did not think to look at the address bar once I was there and then copy and paste the address. Duh, I usually do that all the time but for some reason, brain was not in gear this time. Sue -----Original Message----- From: Gary Richardson [mailto:gar3131@msn.com] Sent: Sunday, February 05, 2006 8:39 PM To: RICHARDSON-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [RICHARDSON] My GEDCOM on Roots Sue, the direction for getting to your GEDCOM on Rootsweb are: Go to the main Rootsweb.com page. Click on Family Trees. There is a search bar called "Or jump to a specific database" Type j264 in that box, and hit enter. This will bring you to your family tree. I did it this way, and found it right away. As for correcting or editing a database, you need to do that in your own software, and then export the file to a GEDCOM. You probably have already done that, at some time. On Rootsweb, if you submitted directly to them, you will have a user name and password. You'll need that to update the GEDCOM in their system. If you originally sent it somewhere other than Rootsweb, and they are displaying a copy, then you must either update the original, or submit a new GEDCOM to Rootsweb. They're easier to use. Many of the other systems that display your GEDCOMs do not update the existing database, but rather, treat it as an entirely new entry. I did not realize that at first, and I have a database that is entered in Ancestry.com about 20 times. Very annoying when you think you've found multiple entries for an ancestor, and realize it is all the same info. Rootsweb will update the existing one, and display just one, unless you intentionally submit more than one. Might take a few minutes to figure out, but I recommend you stick with Rootsweb, if you're planning to send updated info. 3. Hi List, I have had several people ask about my Gedcom that I put on the Rootsweb page. On their main page just click on Family Trees. My Tree is called Great Families and the database ID will say j264. If you check it out and find any wrong info, or can fill in info that you do not mind me putting up on that database, please let me know. Your name will be given as credit for the information. 2. Richard Tennesen
    3. Does anyone know the family motto of Scottish Richardsons? I've found a crest on-line, but the motto is unreadable in its entirety. It appears to be three words, Latin? First word looks like Virtate -- web research on that and "family mottos," etc., haven't born results. Thanks, Richard Tennesen, Capitola, CA (ggson of Richard Richardson, whose parents were born in Scotland about 1810).

    3. Does anyone have good info. on tracing Scottish Richardson roots? I' the great-grandson of Richard Richardson, born in Canada I understand, but whose parents were from Scotland. Richard was born in 1842, so his parents, whose names I don't know, would have been born ca. 1810. I' m planning a trip to Scotland in May, and would like to do some research while there. Thanks, Richard Tennesen, Capitola, CA P.S. -- Richard found his way to Kentucky, where, in 1869, married my great-grandmother, Charlotte (Gedge). They had two daughters: Blanche, and my grandmother, Mabel, who married Norwegian immigrant Jacob Tennesen, in 1900.

    3. I have an Amanda Richardson that was born ca 1837 in TN. was on the 1850 census of Gordon CO. GA. age 14. She had siblings Evaline or Emaline, Leroy, and Melissa. Her parents were Samuel Richardson b. 1806 GA. and mother was Jane Hassler born 1809 TN. Believe by 1850-55 she was living with Grandparents Hassler in Roane Co. TN. and from there is lost.
