I believe that there were two Joel Riches who lived in that area - one being the nephew of the other. Following is information on one of them which I obtained from the Illinois Secretary of State's Office: Muster and Descriptive Roll of Company H, 155th Regiment of Illinois Volunteers Joel Rich, Corporal, age 24, 5'8 1/2", dark hair, dark eyes, dark complexion, farmer, native of Hamilton County; enlisted for a one-year period on Feb. 9, 1965, in Ashley, Illinois; mustered into service on Feb. 19 at Camp Butler by Capt. Hall; resident of McLeansboro, Illinois; died March 27, 1865, in Nashville, Tennessee of disease This muster roll also has the following information on Warren Rich: Musician, age 18, 5' 5", dark hair/eyes/complexion, farmer, native of Hamilton County; enlisted for a one-year period on Feb. 9, 1965, in Ashley, Illinois; mustered into service on Feb. 19 at Camp Butler by Capt. Hall; resident of McLeansboro, Illinois; mustered out on Sept. 4, 1865, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, as a private by Capt. Wilson Hope this is helpful.
