Dick, You are so right. None of us can go forward without cashing in on someone's work and all of us need to be a "someone." I remember how much fun it was when I was working on my and my husband's families, several years ago. I got to know people across our land and we exchanged many envelopes of information and questions as we researched our families. To this day, I can remember the names of several top notch researchers who shared with me, as a beginner, and I was amazed that they would do so. Consequently, I vowed to share all my findings with any contributing researcher and was rarely disappointed in any of them. Were we a more sharing people then? Were we less hurried? I don't think so. We certainly lived in a pre-instant world but that is about the only difference I can see. Your letter has certainly given me pause for thought. Thank you for writing it.
