I recently found the burial place of my great-grandfather Abraham RICH in the Jewish Cemetery at Pineville, La. it indicated that he had been born May 7, 1854 in Lubranice, Prussia. he died in Bunkie, Louisiana on October 26, 1905. I do not know when he emigrated to the USA ( Avoyelles Parish, La.) , but he married my great-grandmother Hermina Siess there on January 3, 1885. In his adopted home town of Bunkie, Louisiana, there are also records mentioning George RICH and Mildred Hood RICH. I have no idea how they are related to Abraham, if they are. Is anyone seraching in the same direction?
I'm looking for the parents and family of Rosanna RICH who was born about 1785, perhaps in NY state, died 29 Aug 1825 at age 40 in Elba Twp, Genesee Co. NY. Rosanna married Lemuel Lee CLARK, the son of Samuel CLARK and Mary LEE, in 1800. The marriage may have taken place in the vicinity of Fort Ann, Washington Co., NY, as Lemuel's youngest brother was born there in 1798. On the Washington County GenWeb site, a James RICH is listed among the electors of Fort Ann in 1795. I haven't been able to find much on this family yet to determine if Rosanna was perhaps a daughter. Any information or leads to Rosanna's family would be greatly appreciated. I can provide information on the CLARK descendants. Thank you. Jane Devlin Lake Orion, MI
Dave, Livingston was a new county in 1830. For 1810 or 1820 census check Ontario, Genesee or Allegany counties. For 1790 Ontario and 1800 Ontario or Steuben. I sent this directly to David Shea a few days ago, forgetting that others on the list might be interested. The reference for this information is "Map Guide to the U.S. Federal Censuses, 1790-1920" by William Thorndale and William Dollarhide. (1987) Dick Rich

I am looking for the parents of Mary Catherine "Kittie" Rich-b. 1873 in Tn-d. Feb 22 1938 TX She married Oct 10 1889 to William Holiday Lee-b. 1866 Grainger Co., Tn
Hi Mary You can almost bet she was in the line of Thomas Rich Sr. and Susannah(Hannah) Neu/Noe Rich of Orange county NC during the Rev war years. Later most of these moved to TN to obtain their land grants for war service and many(Rich & Noah) eventually located in Grainer county which later became Franklin county. Here is some info on my connections and I have more on the Neu/ Reich linbe if you are interested. Jacob Rich line Thomas Rich Sr.(c.1730 Germany-1780 SC) married Susannah Noah(c. 1730-died after 1792 Orange County NC)[daughter of Peter & Hannah Noe/Noah of Orange County, NC) Thomas and Susannah had three known children-Thomas Jr., Peter & Jacob. These three received land grants as a result of service in the Revolutionary war. The grandfather also served and Thomas Sr. died at Gates defeat near Camden SC in 1780. Jacob Rich Sr.(Dec 16 1762NC-Aug 14, 1838 TN). married first Philpina N. Sharp(Aug 8, 1765-Aug 2, 1808 TN). twelve children and birthdates and states of birth of this marriage: Sarah("Sallie")-Oct 10, 1784 NC Thomas Jefferson-Feb 4, 1786 NC Elizabeth-Feb 2, 1787 NC Mary- Jun 3, 1790 NC Eleanor-Feb 16, 1791 NC Barbara-Mar 6, 1793 NC Margaret-Dec 21, 1794 NC Joseph-Oct 15, 1796 NC Jacob Jr.-Oct 10, 1798 NC William-Jul 27, 1800 NC Philpena("Permelia")-Feb 7, 1802 NC Anna-Dec 5, 1804 TN Married second Rosannah Sartin Counts(Kuntz) (1781 VA-after 1855 TN) married June 15, 1810 Lincoln County TN seven children of the second marriage: George W.-Feb 1, 1813 TN James S.-Apr 18, 1816 TN Richard V.-Jun 5, 1818 TN Louisa-Mar 22, 1820 TN Marshall H.-Apr 1. 1823 TN Edward C.-May 6, 1825 TN Andrew J. -Oct 6, 1828 To add to the confusion Marshall Howell Rich(who moved to and died in Panola county MS Mar 6, 1877) had a nephew named after him who lived and died in Tennessee being almost as old as his uncle. This Jacob Rich line and the Noah family intermarried with each others family a number of times. Thomas Sr. was a German immigrant also naturalized in 1762 as I recall. The original name -Reich. [note from www.heraldry2001.com] The History and Coat of Arms of the RICH family (Left is a sample of what your surname history scroll may look like!!!) The history of this ancient Hampshire family traces its ancestry as a family of Norman origin before the year 1100 and appears first in the ancient records in Hampshire . There is a great deal of evidence that both the Rich(Reich) and Noah(Neu/Noe) families of Orange county NC originated from the Palatine(Saarland-esp Breitfurt) and there is a good possibility they were Swiss. Many Swiss had been imported into this area because of the mortality of so many residents during the long wars. Also there are a number of circumstantial cases, like MS. Lighthall mentions, that seem to connect the PA and VA & NC families. Many of the family records were seized and burned by the pesky Tories during the Rev war. For instance a history professor/writer(Ruth Blackwelder) wrote that 'by 1751 settlers were flocking in(to Orange county NC), mostly from Pennsylvania'. Moreover, the use of certain first names(John, Thomas, Jacob, Susannah/Hannah) common in the different locations lends to the credibility of the theory that all were related and originated from the same area of Europe. Marshall Howell Rich Marshall Howell Rich(1 Apr 1823 Franklin County Tenn-10 Mar 1877 Panola county Mississiappi). Marshall was the seventeenth child of Jacob Rich Sr(Dec 16, 1762 Orange County NC-Aug 14, 1838 Franklin County Tenn), his mother being Rosannah Sartin Counts Rich(1781 Va-after 1855 TN). Marshall married(wagon maker in 1850 census in Franklin County TN) three times and fathered 17 children: married first Frances E. Ford(Oct 1, 1825-Sep 6, 1851 TN)(married in Lincoln County TN): 5 children born in TN: Savannah Oct 27, 1845 Rosann 1846 Mary Ann Sep 2, 1847 Edward C. Dec 7, 1848 Louisa V. May 11, 1851 Married second Delphia Ann Dobbs(Aug 4, 1833-Aug 25, 185?) one child born in MS Benjamin B. Mar 18, 1854 Married third Louisa Jane McAninch(Apr 5, 1831AL-1894MS) having one daughter Rachel McAninch. Eleven children born in MS: Alexander M. June 5, 1857 Jacob Dec 1, 1859 (twin baby of Jacob died) Joseph P. Sep 8, 1861 Robert A. Jan 28, 1863 John Oct 15, 1864 William Thomas Feb 14,1866 Henry C. (TWIN) Oct 11, 1867 Hampton W. (TWIN) Oct 11, 1867 Samuel Jul 24, 1870 George W. Oct 10, 1873 Alexander remained in MS, railroad contractor who lived at Marks on the Coldwater river. Hampton W.(twin of Henry) remained in Tate & Tunica county MS. Named his oldest son Henry after his brother. Henry C.(twin of Hampton) moved to texas and settled in Nacogdoches, TX. Named his oldest son Hampton after his brother. Descendants of several of these are available. A census of 1870(Panola County MS) shows eleven children including an Eliza(age 16) born TN who must have been a relative. Rachel L. McAninch was listed as Rachel L. Rich and Benjamin B. was also present. The 1880 census (Tate County) shows S. R. Rich who is an unknown relative-age 69 as keeping house. S.R. was born in AL and both parents were Irish. Marshall was dead and Louisa and two of the boys were missing from this 1880 census and it is believed they were either visiting relatives in AL or in Arkansas/Texas where some of the children had moved to by this time. Some additional related families of this group are Hunter, Pickle, Cowan, Allen, Presley, Calhoun, Carter, Knox, Sinquefield, Roberts, Tate, Hunter, Lowe, Anderson, and Mabry. Lora, According to Truro vital records, Richard Paine Lombard was the son of Simeon & Rebecca Lombard and was born September 12, 1788 in Truro, Mass. Sounds like the same guy! Also, from Truro vital records: "Simeon Lombard and Rebecca Pain both of truro married at truro ye 8 Day of augast 1781." I couldn't find anything right off on Simeon Lombard but I probably have more on him somewhere in my papers. My great grandmother was a Lombard of Truro. I also have many other of the same surnames and am a descendant of Stephen Hopkins. I can help more. Just tell me what you need. HI Jill: Thanks for the offer of help with Charles Coulson Rich genealogy. I know that there is an association of his descendants. To explain "Kinfolk": it is the journal of the Rich Family Association of Cape Cod. It is published three times per year, Spring, Summer and Fall/Winter. It has either 32 or 36 pages which include research done by members on their ancestors, vital records--Deaths, Births, Marriages--Rich Family news, reports on the recipients of RFA scholarships and on the Isaac Rich Scholarship at Boston University. (Isaac Rich was a founder of B.U. and endowed a scholarship there.) We also use articles on "A Rich of Today," "A Rich to Remember", Computer Genealogy and most anything about Riches. The association address is P. O. Box 142, Well fleet, MA 02667. Membership is open to anyone with the surname, related to it, or just interested in it. We have members from several immigrant ancestors. Richard Rich an early settler on Cape Cod is ancestor of many members. Others include Nicholas Rich of Salem, John Rich (Johannes Reich) from the Palatine region of Germany, Balthazar Riche of Switzerland. This is not a comprehensive list and we have a lot of Riches searching for connections or for their own gateway ancestor, as those settlers in this country are now called. The RFA has an annual reunion on the third weekend of September. In recent years these have been held at Eastham, Cape Cod, MA. This year's reunion will be next Saturday. If you have further questions, I will try to answer, or find answers. Can you help Mel Rich who is searching for his Charles Rich? I hope so. His data so far are interesting and the editor of Kinfolk and I have tried to find connections for him, as you have seen from comments here on this list. All the best. Mary Lighthall, Prod. Ed. of Kinfolk.
Dear Rich Cousins, I'm listing the name and county of the Rich's to help make it easier to request lookups. I'll post the 1860 7 1870 index over the next few days. I'm also posting the Noe's listed on their list at noe-l@rootsweb.com I sure hope this helps someone. Let's all share the info we have and see what else pops up! Hello, my name is Jill Holmes and Charles Coulson Rich is my third great grand father. I too have not seen the connection to your Charles Rich, but wouldn't doubt either, that there could be some connection. I come from Charles' 5th wife Emeline Grover. There was some mention to this Kinfolk, I would like some more information on that I have never heard of it. Plus, I have been looking to see if there is any webpages in connection to the Charles C. Rich family. I have looked and have found none. Also, as far as reunion info, my mother has been out of the loop for some time and want to get back into that loop. If any one needs any info on C.C.R. please feel free to write. Jill Holmes Crestline, CA
Hello, Mel Rich: About your Charles Rich: I phoned part of your message to the editor of Kinfolk, the publication of the Rich Family Association. She spent some time today looking for someone to fit your data, and is very intrigued by the whole story. There is another Mormon Charles C. Rich--the C is for Coulson--who was an high ranking officer in the Mormon church. He was featured in an article, "A Rich to Remember" in "Kinfolk", Spring, 1983, pg. 3-5. He is definitely not your Charles. The editor found no connection with another Charles. However with the intense interest of the LDS in genealogy and with your Charles as a member, there should be data on him in their records. Have you tried that approach? Someone here on the Rich List will be able to help you with that. The RFA has state representatives who help with genealogy problems in their state. I will send you the addresses of two from Utah by regular e-mail. This will ignore the fact that usually these people do searching for RFA members. Would you care to join? All the best to you in this search that has piqued our interest, too ML, Prod. Ed., Kinfolk.
Hi Cousins, I went to the LDS Genealogy Library in LA yesterday and did some more rooting around. I have the above indices for the state of TN and the Census Info for GRAINGER COUNTY Riches and Noes. I'll be glad to do lookups for anyone. if there is enough requests, I'll post the lists here. Cousin Patty
