Betty: If this is as far back as you've traced this line, I think you're close to a major addition. I, too, am descended from Richs of Enfield Massachusetts. See what you think of this information: Ebenezer Rich (b. Mar 20 1729/30) of Truro, MA moved his family to Greenwich, MA around 1781 (dismissed from Truro Church to Church in Greenwich December 9, 1781.) Ebenezer's family included: Wife: Ruth Paine, b. April 30, 1736, Truro, Massachusetts, m. 10/30/1754, Truro Children: Ebenezer, Jr. b. 8/31/1755, Truro, d. 11/27/1829, Middlebury, New York; 9 children of two wives, children b. Enfield and Greenwich (no Williams) Barnabas b. 9/23/1757; 9 children of two wives, children b. Hardwick and Greenwich, (no Williams) Daughter b. 11/16/1759, d. 11/22/1759 Ezekiel b. 1/5/1761 Mercy b. 1/16/1763, d. 2/14/1834, Greenwich Samuel b. 8/12/1765, d. 8/10/1782, Greenwich Rachel (my ancestor) b. 9/24/1768 Joab b. 3/1/1771 Sarah b. 4/6/1774 Caleb b. 7/7/1776, d. 5/15/1844, Bowdoin, ME At least two of Ebenezer's younger brothers also moved from Cape Cod to Central MA: Apollos, b. 10/9/1746, d. 4/20/1835 in Ware, MA; m. 11/12/1770 in Truro Abigail Collins. Children (b. Truro exc Apphia b. Hardwick) Apollos, Andrew, Elkanah, Margery, Jerusha, Abigail, Apphia John, b. 9/20/1749, d. March 1826 in Enfield; m. 10/22/1772 in Wellfleet, MA Mercy Chipman (descendant of Mayflower passengers) Children (b. Hardwick): Martha, Bethiah, John, Sabra, William 1 (b. June 1784, d. May 5, 1790), Samuel, William 2 (b. 6/13/1792 in Hardwick, died an adult in New York. Many of the Richs from central MA went to Genesee County, New York, and there is a William ther in the 1850 census. If you haven't already you might want to look at this record for a wife Elizabeth. ) My money is on John's son William as your William of Enfield. Hi All, I'm having problems with a family, hopefully someone on the list knows of them. Samuel Rich b Nov 1879 Al died between 1910-1920 Limestone Co Al. Hello again, Rich's! I received many replies to my note sent out just today, so I know there are lots of you who would benefit from the collective interest and experiences of others as they try to search out the Rich ancestors. I have written to Dick Rich and presented what I hope will be worthwhile suggestions or at least questions on what we can do to collect and share information with each other, perhaps through the Rich website. I am sure that you will also be able to come up with ideas for him that will help us to help each other. Thanks again for your replies! Gardes la Foy! Frank Rich Johnson

Count me in, but I have never ever been contacted by anyone that is researching my particular Ritch/Rich line despite the fact that I have sent out my rather detailed research information several times. I will be happy to share my research data and documentation, but I think that no current researcher has identified themselves as being interested in my particular line. Franklin Ingram, Raleigh, NC

Last year I put together a series of "Electronic Queries" which were published in "Kinfolk" (fall/winter 1997 and spring 1998). These generated a flurry of correspondence but not much followup. Many Rich researchers are not online and probably never will be. We need to find more ways to reach those who have answers as well as those who have questions. The most important function of the Rich Family Association (http://www.richfamilyassociation.org), the Rich LISTSERV as well as the Rich Forum (http://genforum.genealogy.com/rich/) is to bring together people with the common interest of the Rich surname. It is also important that we stimulate the retrieval and study of records that will add to the body of knowledge about our ancestors. The Internet can only be useful if someone makes information available and we all have a responsibility to do this. No one wants to give away hard earned research but I believe that we will ultimately get back much more. Dick Rich - President, Rich Family Association

Hello Riches! Are you out there? My email has been deluged on a daily basis with the MAYFLOWER-L questions and answers about lineage, books available, etc. Yet, though I have not 'unsubscribed' to the RICH-L list, I have had no email from Rich members for a long time so I wonder if I have somehow missed the boat schooner! I am sure that there are Richs on this list who are still looking to establish their lines, and who are perhaps trying to do it solo, who could benefit from the 'email connection' available through this list. Or there is perhaps some Rich family who might want to get some questions answered, but have no computer in their home. There are all sorts of benefits this list might have to the RFA. Let's see if we can come up with an email scheme that would let us all interact and keep in touch with each other in addition to the RFA website ~ (http://www.richfamilyassociation.org) Garde la Foy! Sorry I forgot to include the URL http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl I should have read my signature. Jim... A person who fails to plan will most assuredly plan to fail..
There certainly is such a search brought to you by the fine people at Rootsweb. Not only are they archiving lists they are archiving GenWeb sites, US Census and more. Go to the following URL and just put in the name you want to search such as Rich-L (all lists that Rootsweb maintains can be searched this way) you will be given a year to pick from such as 1997, or 1998 or 1999 pick your year then you can look for what ever name you want lets say you want to look for George Rich you would put the following as a search argument george and rich these would find all queries that had the word george and rich. like george henderson and jacob rich. if you wanted george rich look for "george rich" if you want to see all the queries just ask for rich. When you get your queries you will be given the opportunity of what part of the message to look at. Full, subject, submitter, body, etc. Folks this is a wealth of information available to those who want to take the effort. Jim Lantrip, (my late wife was a Rich for Hamilton Co. Hello All, I'm new to the list and hope that someone may know of this family. Samuel Rich born November 1879 Al married March 10, 1895 to Ida Belle Martin by J.M. Payne in Limestone County, Alabama. Samuel apparently died before 1920. The are listed on the 1900, 1910 Limestone Co Al census and Ida is still there in 1920. Their children are: Roy T born Feb 1896, Nelia M b March 1900, Riley L b 1903, Nina A. born 1905, Eva b 1908 Georgia S. b abt 1908, Clara B. b 1912, Clyde b 1914 and William B b abt 1918. Does anyone know who Samuel and Ida's parents were and who Riley married the 1st time. Riley and his first wife had a daughter named Ruby Dale who died in a car accident in 1952. They also had children; James, Wilbourn, and Margaret. Riley's wife died when Ruby was very young. He married a 2nd time to possibly Mary Smith. By his 2nd wife he had David, Cornelus and Charles. Riley may have lived in the Ardmore Al area. Ruby was married to a Self. Would appreciate any help I can get on this family. Thank you, Kathy
