I was wondering if anyone on the list knows of web site for descendants of Charles C. Rich the Mormon Pioneer and Apostle of the LDS Church. I was told there was, from someone in my family, but have had no luck finding it. They have a reunion every year, in fact, I used to attend them as a child, but my mother has lost track of everything and I am trying to pick up where she left off. Thanks in advance, Jill Holmes/CA
Hi, I haven't posted in quite a while so thought I would try again. I know VERY little about the RICH side of my family, but here goes. My G Grandfather was Alexander Robertson Russell RICH who married Mary Theresa Burke November 8, 1889 in Oil City, Venango, PA. They had 5 children, Fred, Edith, Katherine, Mary and Hannah. Hannah is my grandmother, marrying Frank Charles WALLACE. >From IGI records I find Alexander Robertson Russell RICH the son of John Street RICH and Hannah ROBERTSON. Alexander was born July 2, 1862 per the OGO record, in Fonthill, Welland, Ontario. If this matches with anything anyone else has I would very much appreciate hearing from you. Thanks, Hannah Sutton

Can someone on the list give me information on Isaac Rich (died 1787) and his wife Margaret of Rowan/Davie Co., NC? Isaac's will named his wife Margaret and three children John, Ann, and Sarah. Isaac is buried in the Eaton's Church Cemetery in present day Davie Co., NC. This is what I need: 1) Isaac and especially Margaret's approximate birth date 2) Margaret's death date, place of death, and place of burial 3) Margaret's second marriage if she had one after Isaac died Isaac and Margaret's daughter Sarah and her husband John Bowlby Palmer came to Franklin Co., TN in the early 1820s. His is one of the two oldest tombstones in the Walnut Grove Methodist Church Cemetery in Franklin Co., TN. John B. Palmer had come to Franklin County with his daughter Margaret Palmer Weddington and her husband Eli Bradshaw Weddington, who were married in Rowan Co., NC May 16, 1815. Eli B. Weddington purchased land not far from the Walnut Grove Methodist Church Cemetery in 1822 in FCT. These are the inscriptions on the two oldest tombstones (placed next to each other) in the Walnut Grove Methodist Church Cemetery and the wording on these two stones is unique to them only (no others around them have this style wording): In memory of John B. Palmer who departed this life Oct 1825 Aged 54 years [born 1771] In memory of Margaret Pennington who departed this life May 1825 Aged 69 years [born 1756] John Bowlby Palmer made his will June 30, 1825 in Franklin Co., TN. In it he named his wife Sarah and three daughters Margaret Weddington, Eliza Palmer, and Hannah Weddington, his grandson John P. Weddington, and his granddaughter Sarah R. Weddington. Hopefully, someone on the Rich-list will be able to help me find who Margaret Pennington was. Thank you. Joy Q. Gallagher Winchester, Franklin Co., TN
I noticed Rootsweb has moved the RSL to a new server. Here's the new location: http://rsl.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/rslsql.cgi Just type in the RICH surname and you're off and running. -- Craig Rich
Greetings! The RICH-L list has been fairly quiet lately, but we've had 5 or 6 new members join just since the new year so I thought I'd welcome them and say hello to all the rest of you. I started this list in the fall of 1997 and for a few weeks I was the only member. (Boy, did it get boring!) Tonight, I went back and tracked our growth and it looks like this: 7 FEB 1998 -- 100 members 14 DEC 1998 -- 172 members 14 MAR 1999 -- 204 members 15 AUG 1999 -- 252 members As you can see we've leveled off a bit. We currently have 262 Rich researchers on the list, representing most areas of the US and other points on the globe. Many of us (like me) descend from Richard Rich of Eastham on Cape Cod, while many others have southern Rich roots. I notice several of you are also checking out GenForum's Rich list at: http://genforum.familytreemaker.com/rich/ And several of you are listing your Rich surname and others at Rootsweb's Surname List Finder at: http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/Genea/rsl?rich And many of us are members of the Rich Family Association at P. O. Box 142, Wellfleet, MA 02667. If you're not a member, you should really consider it. It's only $20 for new members, then $15 annually. The RFA newsletter "Kinfolk" is worth the price of membership, not to mention the contacts, the information and the annual reunion. As a life member, I am especially proud that the RFA allowed me to design and maintain their official web page at: http://www.richfamilyassociation.org Watch the RFA web page in the future. Decisions are being made regarding content and links. Hopefully, some day it will be the quintessential resource for RFA members throughout the world. All of this amounts to a lot of work and effort going into the Rich line which will, undoubtedly, lead to new discoveries. Your contributions to this mailing list are a very important part of this camaraderie Please remember to continue to post your inquiries and answer each other's questions ON THE LIST, if appropriate, rather than by personal e-mail so all of us can share in the information. Also, if you've posted your Gedcom or put your ahnentafel (family tree) on a web page, please let us know so we can take a look at it. You may hold the missing link for someone! to the Rich list: I am descended from John Rich born 16Jun1751 in Chatham, Ct. This family moved to Washington Co. NY and later to Reading Steuben Co. NY (now in Schuyler Co.) My problem is this: In all of the Rich Association papers I have gone through, I have found almost no mention of this branch of the family. We did not drop off the face of the earth, really. Another problem, my house burned on Xmas day of 1998 and with it nearly all of my genealogical records ie; correspondence, copies of wills, land records, cemetery records , etc. If there are any members of ths branch of the family on this mailing list, I would really appreciate hearing from you and, hopefully, help me to replace all these records. Thank you all and I am looking forward to hearing from you. Mary

There is a huge, complete full name index of all these people >at http://members.aol.com/rarebk/ There were about the same number of RICH individuals who filed applications in 1904 to share in a fund provided by the government to compensate Eastern Cherokee Indians and their descendants, all claiming to be descendants of a Polly Hooker Rich. All were rejected because not enough documentation was provided. Most of these filings were from residents of Clay Co., Jackson Co., Overton Co., Tenn. and Monroe Co., Ky. These can be found in the LDS Family History Library Catalogue under United States, Cherokee, as I recall. These applications contain a wealth of genealogical information. There are about 20 Rich (tto many to listhere) who sued to obtain Cherokee citizenship in the late 1800's, claiming they were of Cherokee descent! There is a huge, complete full name index of all these people at http://members.aol.com/rarebk/ I also found a surname index to another Cherokee book at the site, an old book, supposedly rare, called Old Cherokee Families and their genealogy, with a lot of English names. There is some Creek Indian genealogy info as well. If you go there to the sites main page, click on the Booklists page, and then slowly scroll down past some old genealogy book titles until you get to the Cherokee section. There are some Cherokee genealogy books there, and at least two of them has this complete index posted. Quite fascinating! I am researching my family in the State of Michigan. One of our family lines is the RICH surname. Aldis Lowell RICH, was born on 18 Oct 1816 in Rockingham, Windham, Vermont. The 18 40 Census in Michigan shows an A. RICH living in Oakland County, Mich. I have an IGI Record which shows Aldis has a relative named Hyrum S RICH. I have another IGI record which shows that Aldis L. RICH married a Mariah FARR 4 May 1841 in Macomb County Mich. Another IGI record shows that my gggrandmother Laura Olivia RICH was b 26 May 1844, in Macomb County Michigan and shows her father as Aldis Lowell Rich Sr. and mother Meriah FARR. The 1850 Mich Fed. Census shows the Aldis L. RICH family still living in Macomb County, Mich. Can any one help expand on this RICH family line? Thanks. Bill.

Merry Christmas, all you Rich's and Rich Descendants! This year 1999 has been a wonderful one for us, and I hope for you, as well. We have had great luck (and the time to search) in tracing our Rich ancestors and, especially for me, finding out about living on the Cape 150 years ago! A hard life, but how tough they were just to survive the winters and the terrible storms. Best Wishes to All! FRICHJ
