Larry, I saw your query on the Rich-List. I cut and pasted the information below from the footnotes that I made to an 1890 letter that Belle my Great Aunt Belle Ritch wrote to my Grandmother Ida Blanche Ritch. Belle was visiting relatives in Hollins, AL and Ida was at home in Muscogee Co GA. In the letter Belle talks about their sister, Nona, who has returned to GA from TX. She mentions a Cliff who was in fact a girl, but Clifford is a family name in my Ritch line. In fact, I had a Great Uncle named Clifford Ritch. Read my notes below and let me know if anything rings a bell. Nona Ritch Boswell returned to GA from TX but some of the Ritches stayed in TX. I am not familiar with TX geography so you will need to decide if my Ritches or Boswells were anywhere close to where you first find your Ritches. Here are my footnotes: (1) I assume that the Cliff whom Belle referenced here [in the Letter] is Clifford Allene BOSWELL, the approximately two year old daughter of her sister Nona RITCH BOSWELL. Of course, I believe that Belle and Ida had a younger brother called Cliff, usually listed as C. H. RITCH. (2) Who is referenced here is not stated, but it is most certainly Belle and Ida's older sister, Nona, and her approximately two year old daughter, Clifford "Cliff" Allene BOSWELL. From what is said in the letter, Nona was close enough for Ida to give her a message. [Nona and her husband had returned from TX to GA with their young daughter.] (3) In 1888, approximately two years before Belle's letter, Nona gave birth to her daughter, Clifford Allene BOSWELL, in Mansfield, Tarrant, Texas. Nona must have already returned from Texas with her young child. This explanation would account for Belle's excitement about possibly seeing the referenced person again and for Belle's concern about "little sweet Cliff having the sore eyes." (4) It is interesting to note that, Belle and Ida RITCH'S older brother Alonza E. "Lon" RITCH went to Texas. Did Nona's being in Texas to give birth to her first child have anything to do with Lon's being in Texas also? Yours, Franklin Ingram
I am looking for information to piece together some starting points for my wife's genealogy. Her father was Clifford Onts Ritch b. 5 Sep 1911, Selman, Texas he died 5 Apr 1976 in Terrell, Kaufman Co., Texas. His parents were John William Ritch and Alice Venora Henson. I believe they lived and died near Troup, Texas. Troup is in two counties. Smith and Cherokee. We know nothing else about them. Any help would be appreciated. We would love to find others descended from them to share research and information. Of course, as of now, we don't know much to share. Larry Dwayne Ponder ldp@tenet.edu
--WebTV-Mail-6114-10904 Content-Type: Text/Plain; Charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7Bit Hello Craig, first to correct a mistake I made, it was 1787 (not 78) that a group of settlers arrived from VT and MA, >names were Pratt,Temple , Jewell, Beals and a Moses RICH. They settled in the Cherry Valley area , in Middlefield, Westville and Cooperstown. In the Westville Baptist Churchyard Cemetery, Town of Middlefield are : Moses Rich d.8 Sept 1858 age 66y Hannah Rich d. 6 Nov 1843 age 48 w.o. Moses Moses D. Rich d.11 April 1843 age 19y George W Rich d.8 Oct 1818 age 2y from drowning , both were sons of Moses& Hannah. This Moses, being born about1792 could not be the settler. I believe that the settler was son of the Moses from Bennington VT Born in1767 in Williamstown and married to Sarah Hickock. But have no 100%proof. In a posting of June 1999 Karen Hunter wrote that she had a genealogy ,handwritten by Morgan L Rich Jan 1871 stating, that Moses and Sarah Rich, born in MA , moved to Middlefield and raised 13 children. Also have Hannah R. Rich d. 8Sept 1857 age1y6m daughter of Morgan and Eunice. If anybody has a new addy for Karen Hunter Please post. 13 children could give us many ancestors . Does anyone know of a Walter Rich on Mill Pond Road in Truro, Mass? He was a neighbor of my gr-great grandmother who was also a Rich descendant. I don't know if there was any connection or not. The reason for my interest is that there are several photos of him in the old family photo albums. He was an old man in the photos. I'm guessing the photos were taken in the late 1800's. I can't find any listing for him in the Truro cemetery listings that I have or VR's before 1850. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Sandra

Hello List, I am a new subscriber and having trouble with the relationship between these two- Robert RICH'S. My connection comes in with the marriage of Francis RICH to Thomas CAMMOCK (d. 1602 Maldon, Essex) "of Layer Marney, Essex"; son of Robert CAMMOCK and Elizabeth BADBY. The sources I have located for information on Francis RICH and her family are often in conflict with each other and it has left me a bit confused. She is thought to have been the daughter of Robert RICH, 2nd Baron RICH, and it is also said that she was the Niece of Robert RICH, Earl of WARWICK. One source states that Thomas CAMMOCK was the nephew of the Earl of Warwick. This would mean that the two Robert's were brothers? I know that it was not uncommon for a family to give the same name to two children, but is that the case here? I also have an unnamed sister to one (or both) of these Roberts that married John SMITH, son of Sir Thomas SMITH (Treasurer of the Virginia Company- and I believe the brother of Capt. John SMITH) and Sarah BLOUNT. I would appreciate any guidance or reliable sources anyone can offer to help me out. Regards, Patrick Payne
Hi, I am new to this list and am searching for information on the parents and siblings of Hardy Rich born about 1799 in NC. Hardy married Hannah Atkinson about 1819 in Overton Co., TN. The migration pattern is as follows: NC>by 1819 to Overton Co., TN>by 1830 to Fentress Co., TN>by 1860 to Hill Co., TX. If anyone has any information on Hardy's family, please let me know. Thanks in advance. Gladys Brandstoettner wbrand@gj.net

Craig, I also found the Noah indicated by RichThorne@aol.com in his message of late last night. That Noah was listed in your article in the summer 1998 "Kinfolk". This one is not in your direct line, but a sibling of your Belden, son of James. The above writer also adds the names of a spouse and yet another brother of Belden, a David. Also refers to that brother being another mover to Michigan. Plots get thick, don't they. To your second note, about Abijah Rich of Ionia Co. MI: Way back in 1968 an Ancestor Table in "Kinfolk" showed that he was a grandson of your Belden, b1775. His father was your Noah, b 1803, but had a different mother than your Noah, b 1835. The table shows Noah 1803 residence as Smyrna MI and Abijah residence as Belding MI. I find these to be coherent locations to you articles. Continuing down from Abijah are Daniel Foster Rich, b 1855, residence Tekonsha MI and Zora Belle (Rich) Horton, Battle Creek MI. Zora Belle was b 1896. She died in 1975 per a "For the Record" obit in the fall 1975 "Kinfolk". Don Rich Warren, MI
There are no Noah among the Brookfield Rich line although a number did settle in up-state New York about that time. Barrie Rich

Does anyone know the origin of the Noah K. Rich listed in the Junius Township, Seneca County, New York census of 1810? The household is listed as: 1 free white male 26-44 1 free white female 26-44 2 free white males under 10 1 free white female under 10 Doesn't match either of "my" Noahs or the other two in my database. -- Craig Rich crich@macatawa.org (home) Genealogist, Listowner: MAYFLOWER-L and RICH-L mailing lists
I came across a biography of Abijah Rich (b. 24 March 1825) of Ionia County Michigan at the library in Ionia, Michigan yestrday and would be happy to re-type it and send it to anyone who wants it. I assume it's fairly well known since it was published in a local history book on Montcalm and Ionia County. -- Craig Rich crich@macatawa.org (home) Genealogist, Listowner: MAYFLOWER-L and RICH-L mailing lists
I have always thought that this was James Rich's son who was baptised June 25, l780. Am I wrong in thinking this? The ages agree. Noah would have been 30 in 1810. His wife may have been a Rachel. James wanted a Noah and Rachel to be guardians for the children of Daniel who I believe was an older son of James. I have been trying to follow a couple of the children of Daniel who also moved to Michigan. I have lost them but am still trying to find them.
I am searching for information on my great-great grandmother. I have very little information and most of it is hearsay. Her name was Louan Rich, b. 30 Aug 1878 in Hilham, TN. (Overton County). She had a sister named Martha and was said to be 1/2 Cherokee. Louan had two daughters. Crayton, born 21 July 1895. I am uncertain of her last name. Middle or maiden name started with a C. Also, Ethel Dee Flate or Flatt born 2 Aug 1897. She was later known to her family as Lula. Louan and her daughters moved to Arkansas, probably in the early 1900's. Louan married a Barlow Harris. Thank you, Kim
