    1. Re: Hamilton and Franklin County ILLinois Richs.
    2. Steve Rich
    3. I believe that there were two Joel Riches who lived in that area - one being the nephew of the other. Following is information on one of them which I obtained from the Illinois Secretary of State's Office: Muster and Descriptive Roll of Company H, 155th Regiment of Illinois Volunteers Joel Rich, Corporal, age 24, 5'8 1/2", dark hair, dark eyes, dark complexion, farmer, native of Hamilton County; enlisted for a one-year period on Feb. 9, 1965, in Ashley, Illinois; mustered into service on Feb. 19 at Camp Butler by Capt. Hall; resident of McLeansboro, Illinois; died March 27, 1865, in Nashville, Tennessee of disease This muster roll also has the following information on Warren Rich: Musician, age 18, 5' 5", dark hair/eyes/complexion, farmer, native of Hamilton County; enlisted for a one-year period on Feb. 9, 1965, in Ashley, Illinois; mustered into service on Feb. 19 at Camp Butler by Capt. Hall; resident of McLeansboro, Illinois; mustered out on Sept. 4, 1865, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, as a private by Capt. Wilson Hope this is helpful. 2. Craig, et. al. Thanks to Jim Lantrip, I just learned that by clicking on "Reply All," I don't have to erase anything, so disregard that part of my previous post. Tim Rich

    2. Craig, I was one who responded to your "royal" post. The problem---at AOL, at least---is that in our mail program, we can click on a response button, and the originating email address--yours in this case--is automatically inserted. Once we hit "Send," it goes to your personal address unless we have erased it and inserted RICH-L@rootsweb.com, as I have done this time. Tim Rich

    3. Craig Rich et. al. I too have a List and have noticed that replies to posted messages sometimes go directly to the person posting the message and not to the list. I think that it has to do with the way rootsweb formats its List messages and the way that the Email programs work. If I hit the reply to message Icon to a message that arrived via a list, the Email is automatically addressed to the sender. However if I hit the reply to all (as I have done with this Email) it then goes both to the sender and the List. Thus the original sender will receive this email twice. 3. Is anyone aware of the following royal line which supposedly shows a connection between EDWARD I (LONGSHANKS) KING OF ENGLAND straight down to Sarah Roberts, wife of Richard Rich of Cape Cod. Has this been proved? Has it been disproved? I've been pointed to the web site, but haven't yet contacted the author. Anyone know him? The link is: http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/h/u/n/Robert-A-Huntley/GENE5-0001.html Just click on the little numbers to the left of each generation and it takes you through the line to Sarah Roberts. 3. I am searching for information about my great, great grandmother, Clara Rich (1824-1894). She was married to John B. Wilson III and lived on a farm in Lapeer, Michigan. One of her sisters was the mother of John Dewey, the educator. Also according to family oral history one of Clara's sisters was one of the first women doctors in the U.S. We would greatly appreciate any information about the sisters' names, the names of Clara's parents and their genealogies, as well as hearing from other descendants of this family. Please reply to jborel@juno.com Joan Borel

    2. Carl Cason
    3. Linda, two things: 1) Always include in your queries what you know about the person's birth date and location, death date and location, where he lived. Dates and locations are very important, even if they are guesses. If you don't know, say so. Give them and you will have much greater success in getting people to take the time to search their records for you. 2) Genealogy is spelled with an A (a common error for beginners). Good luck.
