Barbara, Even though I do not have Obedia or Alice in my direct line currently, I do have have a Vianna Rich who married my GGG-Grandfather George Rich. She too, was rumoured to be cherokee or possibly another tribe. We have tried for years to find a paper trail to verify this, but so far have been unable, and also do not know who Vianna's parents were, but apparently her maiden name was also Rich. The physical proof of her native american heritage shows up strongly in the dark complexion, chiseled features and coal blue/black hair of my mother brother, nephew and grandmother. Vianna variously went by Vienna, Vina and Viney. If you or anyone can help, its our most puzzling mystery. Dear RICH family, I am interested in the family and ancestry of one Robert P. Rich, born about 1904 presumably in Marshfield, Massachusetts. He married an Ethel C. ( ? ), and had daughter Melissa Rich. There are no Riches in the earlier Marshfield Vital Records, so I am guessing that Robert P.'s family lived there only briefly. Was he of the Eastham family? I have a reprint of the 1930's Rich article from NEHG Register, but it does not cover the later generations. Any help will be appreciated. Rick Buckingham Kensington, MD

Hi Dick, I am sure Elizabeth Cole will be sorely missed but, without doubt, someone will rise to the occasion, if not for the 20 years that Elizabeth and Mary Lighthall did such distinguished yeomen's work. My wife Mary and I will also try to help out in your editing department and we intend to send in some of our research "finds" to Kinfolk when they are ready. My wife has become absorbed in the mysteries of genealogy, reading and rereading copies we have brought home from various libraries and archives, not only for the Rich family, but others as well. I believe she is now quite proficient and "asks the good questions." Through the marvel of computers, we have found several cousins of the Paine list who are interested in the Rich list and the website because our lines are interspersed "here and there," like all good Cape folke. And where they may have information missing from their web pages, we send email back and forth until everyone agrees on "who the children are, who they married, etc." Forrest Paine (me go too@aol.com) has a Paine list going that Richs may be interested in, since there are so many connections with us. Send him email. He's a good man and will be interested in hearing from you. On our first trip to the Cape (1975) to research our Rich connections, we were busily digging away at the records in the town clerk's office when the town clerk (Tom Kane) said, "I don't know why you want to go through all that work when you have cousins all around here, including Alivina Rich Lewis who lives nearby. So, off we went to meet Alvina who introduced us all around, including George and Louise Hatch who brought us to the Truro cemetery for the first time. Alvina was a charming woman and a wonderful writer who gave us all the information we could carry and more, too. At the time, I thought we would never have to do any more research, but 20 years later, we're still at it. Addictive! And lots of fun. We will continue to send our puzzles to "Reply to All," hoping to find someone who has the answers and, at the same time, to encourage others to ask and answer questions sent in by their Rich Cousins! Happy Easter! Frank Rich Johnson (603) 898-5237 frichj@aol.com

Craig and all the Rich list, Another aspect of the way this is supposed to work is that we should all share our needs and knowledge without waiting for everything to be complete. Genealogy is especially fascinating because it is never finished. The gathering of information never ends and the knowledge gained is always tantalizingly incomplete. I would like to make a special appeal for material to be published in Kinf olk. The Rich Family Association newsletter/magazine is published three times a year. Our editor of almost 20 years, Elizabeth Cole has reluctantly stepped down and we are trying to reorganize and regroup. Articles on research results, historical records and general interest regarding all of your Rich families are always needed. Don't forget that many of the people who may have the answers you seek may never see your Internet sources. Send in queries to be published in Kinfolk and don't forget to see the RFA web site at www.richfamilyassociation.org. Craig has done a great job of setting this up but we welcome comments and suggestions for improvement. Richard D. Rich - President - Rich Family Association

The MURRAY's settled Murrayville, in Morgan Co., IL in 1847, then migrated west to Kansas before 1890. I also know that Nora had a twin sister named Dora. Any connections? Paul Murray Nashville, TN
I was reading your e-mail about the missing Tennessee Riches, and already thinking that I needed to contact you about the ones in Wise County, TX, when I then read your reference to the one who settled in Wise County. What a coincidence! There were evidently several of the Tennessee Riches that eventually traveled to Wise County. Most of them are buried in Bethel cemetery, just outside of Decatur. My own Rich Line came from Pennsylvania through Kentucky and Crawford County, Illinois, and most of the ones who wound up in Wise County are buried around Chico, a little farther West than Decatur. But I have always wondered if the 2 lines weren't connected somehow, maybe back in Pennsylvania. I don't have the list of the ones buried in Bethel cemetery, but if you can contact the Wise County Historical Society, they do have a list and can probably provide you with the information, especially if you're willing to make a small donation. I don't have the address or phone, but if you can't get it from information or the internet, email me and I will find it. Good Luck! Steve Mason 1. Isaiah Rich, Fayette Co. PA 2. Hi Joyce, It appears that we must have some common ground here. The Richs settled in Hamilton Co, IL and were from KY. I have very little information on some of the older Hamilton Co. Rich families. I found where Warren or Warner Owned land in Monroe Co. Ky, and several born in Ky. Hamilton and Franklin Co. are adjacent. I have been to both many times.. In Hamilton Co. I find Joel Rich married Elizabeth Glen Mar 4 1860. In the 1850 Census of Hamilton Co. Ill I have hh 950 Jeremiah Rich 32 Ky, and Ann 28, Tn his wife, Children Joel age 14 born Ill. Other children Elizabeth, John, William, Emory, Milone, Margaret with Mother in Law Margaret Musgrove,63 B. Va. It there is a connection that the 2 Joels are uncle and nephew then Jeremiah must be the brother of your Joel. I also have a Sidney Rich age 62 born Virginia, in 1850 Hamilton Co. also.
