I have the names of all their children and their spouses. My dad died (George Rich) when I was 2 years old and my mother remarried, so I never was around the Rich Families. Elaine (and RICH-L Listserv): No one knows where Richard Rich of Cape Cod came from. Most suppose it was England. His first appearance was when he witnessed the sale of the Ketch "George and Samuel" at Piscataqua (Dover Point), NH on December 5, 1667. He was a mariner and died in October 1692. He married, before 29 February 1671, Sarah Roberts, daughter of Thomas Roberts of New Hampshire. She preceded him in death. Dear Rich list members: The Rich list has grown by another 17 members in the past few weeks! We now have 221 of us willing to share information on our RICH ancestry. The list has been pretty quiet lately, although we're starting to see some of our newer members posting queries. I always feel bad when a posting goes unanswered but, rest assured, there are many of us who look at each one and dig into our archives to try to find an answer -- many times to no avail. I don't always respond if I don't find an answer, but I always look! I hope everyone takes the time to search his or her database and archives to help answer queries. That's how it's all supposed to work. And remember to post your answers to the list, not just via personal e-mail -- especially if you think the answer may benefit others. Please remember too that the Rich Family Association in Wellfleet, Massachusetts (USA) remains the best way to really begin your search. They are the repository of a wealth of information, especially on New England Riches. The spring '99 issue of Kinfolk should be arriving soon! Every now and then a "roll call" of subscribers is helpful, as "cousins" tend to discover each other. Please feel free to check in and list your line of descent from your immigrant ancestor, and let everyone else know of your unsolved mysteries. Here's mine: Richard Rich of Eastham on Cape Cod, Thomas, John, James, Belden R., Noah, Noah, Edward Belden, Charles Loase, Charles Edward, Craig Robert. Rootsweb has announced a new threaded archive system which should allow members to search postings. It's new, so give them time to work the bugs out. Here's the message I received from them: * * * * * NEWS AND NOTES FROM ROOTSWEB THREADED LIST ARCHIVES ARE NOW AVAILABLE. Now you can read 122,813 messages from 877 mailing lists using your Web browser by visiting <http://archiver.rootsweb.com/>. All those messages are from just three months of beta tests -- watch this archives grow with its public debut. This is a remarkably comfortable way to browse through the posts that have been made to the lists. Be sure to use the integrated search engine to find what you are looking for. To use the Archiver you will need to pick a user name and password and you will need to accept a cookie. The reason for passwords and cookies is to keep spammers' e-mail address harvesters *out* of the archives. Because of this password-and- cookie feature, listowners can set up lists to be archived with confidence that they are *not* exposing posters' addresses to spammers. We encourage all RootsWeb listowners to visit the Archiver and then include their lists in the archives. The next step is to start making old list messages available. Thanks to Marc Nozell for implementing the threaded archives. It's great work. * * * ------------------------------------------------------------------------ have fun! -- Craig R. Hi, I may be related to Jacob Rich too, my name is Ron Rich, I am descended from Warren Rich B Virginia 1780- 1790 d 1857 in Hamilton CO ILL. I have never been able to establish his birthplace or parentage, I believe he may have been a son of William (s/o Jeremiah. And from what I found so far is that William had a brother named Jacob, Have you ever heard of Warren? Bobby Rich say's that all the Rich family all lived around Goochland CO VA. I just found Warren in the 1820-1830 Warren CO Ky census, He may have had a Brother named Jeremiah too, all the cousins have gave up trying to sort out all the tangled gernerations, There are at least three Jeremiahs from three branches of the family, so any help or suggestions where to search next would be appreciated: Ron Rich Millbrae,CA
Hi, Bobby, i am glad to see ur post about "Phil's" marker. My husband and i were up there in '95 and the marker was there, but a lot can happen in 4 years & i was afraid it may have been damaged. We had to search for the marker when we were there, but found it among the fallen pines and brown leaves. We walked across a frozen cotton field to get to the site, since it was in January & very cold. The man who runs the meat processing plant nearby had told us to come back when it was cold because the rattlesnakes are crawling in the summer. I don't like snakes, so we went back when the temperature was about 10 below, i think! Really, it was cold. Anyway, we found the grave and took some pictures. Also, took pics of the house across the road, that may have belonged to my gr gr gr gr grandfather, Jacob Rich. I am having scanner problems, but when i get straightened out, i will scan and send to anybody who wants them. Pat Weaver>Laney Lafayette Rich>Rev John Robert Rich>James C. "Dutch" Rich>James M. Rich>William Rich>Jacob Rich>Thomas Rich.
There had been a rumor the grave marker of Philopena Rich (wife of Jacob) had been removed from Old Bean Creek Cemetery of Franklin Co., Tennessee. On March 26, l999 I saw it in place, surrounded by fallen trees, but intact. I can understand how someone might want it since it is the oldest marker in Franklin Co., Tennessee.
