I'm looking for anyone who has roots in southern Alsace, between Colmar and Mulhouse. Specifically, the villages of Guebwiller, Orschwihr, Bergholz, or Linthal. Other names connected to the Rich family also welcome. Thanks, William RICH

Does anyone have any information on: RITCH/RITCHIE - Their origins in the Orkney's, or the prison ship "The Crown" - read on... The following are bits and pieces I have plagiarised from a couple of emails: In the book by Bremner, "Hoy- The Dark Enchanted Isle" the RITCH's are stated to be descendants from RITCHIE brothers who escaped from the wreck, at Deerness in1679, of the prison ship, "The Crown" which was transporting Covenanters to America. (The Covenantor's memorial in Deerness is dedicated to the loss of those who were not as lucky as our RITCH ancestors). One brother settled in the east and one settled in the west of Orkney, hence the branch differences of the RITCH family in Orkney. Regards, Ivan ________________________________ http://www.alphalink.com.au/~isanders
Ivan, I only know that my ancestors spelled the name Ritchie in the late 1700's in Mecklenburg Co NC. That is they spelled it that way when they signed their own name. I have this from some original documents that I copied at the NC Archives. Of course, the name was spelled many different ways back then, depending on who was writing it or spelling it for someone to write. Later on, and particularly after they moved to GA, my ancestors spelled the name: Ritch. Your information is of great interest to me. Do you think it fact or "tall tales?" Franklin Ingram >In the book by Bremner, "Hoy- The Dark Enchanted Isle" the Ritches are stated to be >descendants from Ritchie brothers who escaped from the wreck, at Deerness in >1679, of the prison ship, "The Crown" which was transporting Covenanters to America." > >Ivan >
The following is an extract of an email I received from Ron Garson: "I note now that Gregor Lamb uses the Ritch spelling and that the Orkney telephone directory also has only that spelling. First of all I am interested in the origin of the name and your opinion. Lamb calls it a familiar form of Richard first recorded in Orkney in 1492. In the book by Bremner, "Hoy- The Dark Enchanted Isle" the Ritches are stated to be descendants from Ritchie brothers who escaped from the wreck, at Deerness in 1679, of the prison ship, "The Crown" which was transporting Covenanters to America." Does anyone on the list either know any more about the origins of the RITCH name, or details of the prison ship "The Crown" Regards, Ivan ________________________________ http://www.alphalink.com.au/~isanders
Hello everyone, I was recently told that my William RICH (b. 4 June 1814 - d. 9 Nov. 1856 in Wayne Co., TN) was the son of a Peter RICH (b. ca 1770 in Orange Co., NC) and Elizabeth GARRET (b. ca 1770). Peter was the son of a Thomas REICH (b. ca 1730 in Germany - died 1780 in SC) and Susannah NEU (b. ca 1730 - d. aft. 1792 Orange Co, NC). If anyone knows about this, I hope I get the message, too. Jacob seems to be the brother of JOhn Rich of Maidstone, VT (This one is my ancestor) and I don't think there was any Isaiah in the family in Germany that they seem to belong to. Stuff on them has been here on the list lately. I hope one of those Jacob Rich researchers will come forward. All the best to all Riches on this Remembrance day. ML in VT
This is my first posting to the list. I am looking for information on the parents of Stephen Rich. I show Stephen RICH b. June 12, 1787 in Pa, (possibly Lancaster Co.) and married to Nancy DUCKER b April 28, 1788 in Campbell County Ky on May 4, 1812. The information I have states that Stephen Rich is the son of Stephen Rich and Miss BLACKBURN. Is this the same Stephen RICH and Jane BLACKBURN of West Nottingham, Chester Co. Pa? Chester County is very close to Lancaster and the dates of birth seem appropriate. Any insight to this family would be appreciated. Thanks, Chris
Can anybody tell me with any degree of certainty, that Jacob and Isaiah Rich, both of Fayette County, Pennsylvania in the 1790's were NOT related? Or that they Were? Thanks, Steve Mason
Am looking for decendants of Abraham Rich who married Hermina Siess, Jan. 3, 1885 in Avoyelles Parish, LA. ( Mansura, Marksville or Bunkie, LA.) They are my maternal great-grandparents. They owned a general store in Bunkie, La. at the turn of the century. They had 6 children: Miriam Rich ( Cone), Aaron Rich, Leopold Rich, Benjamin Rich, Sadie Rich ( Woodson), and Rachel Rich ( Coberly), my grandmother. In the Siess family plot in Bunkie, La. Pythian Cemetery, my ggrandmother Hermina Siess Rich is buried, along with Benjamin Rich ( her son) who predeceased her in 1945, Leopold Rich, who died April 1, 1922, Miriam Rich (Green), who died in 1970), daughter of Benjamin Rich, and Mildred Hood Rich, born Oct. 21, 1893 and died March 3, 1943. I do not know how Mildred is related to us, but she is buried in the family plot. I know also of a George Rich who married Rose Jeansonne, Dec. 24, 1895. I do not know how or if George is related to Abe. Is there anyone out there familiar with this family? If you have ICQ you can message me. HI; I work on Kinfolk, but in this case my information is spotty about what became of the vastly updated and added to Turo Cemeteries book that you bought. It is still in the making and the makers are aware of the obligation to finish of refund. Delays have been with illness of people and computers, I make that as an explanation not an excuse. When I am at Cape Cod doing the journal in June I will ask some of the committee working in Truro about it and give them this complaint which is certainly valid and accepted. May I also add apologies. ML in VT
Dear folks I paid for a book three years ago and as of this date I have not received this book. It was supposed to be cemetery records. You sent me a letter saying I was on record as paying, and that I would receive it that next spring. So far I have heard nothing, I paid the pre-published price of $18.00 looking forward to hearing from regarding this matter. Sincerely, a Rich family member, Janette Kirwan P.S. Is there any way I could get a copy of my genealogy. Since I sumitted that I have found thee more lines to Stephen Hopkins and two lines to John Howland and John Tilley
I am looking for my grgr grandfather's parents. I do not know for sure, where they originated but I think that Joel Rich was born 9-7-1835 possibly in Ky. (Jossie) Rich born Aug. 28th, 1869 in ILL. married John Wesley Summers/Somers Feb. 12th 1886 in Benton, ILL. Any and All info will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Joyce Tadlock Princeton,Texas
I'm planning a trip East this summer and will definitely go to "The Cape" to see where my Riches lived - Truro, Eastham. Are the Rich books that you speak of available to use, and, if so, how would I find them? Are there any maps with locations of homesteads on them going back to the Richards>Obadiah>Isaac? I have never been in this area and am very excited to make it the best possible visit. Thanks for your help. Katharine Rich Gilbreath Thanos
HI Rosalie: Downloaded you message and will try to look it up along with Sandy's while on the Cape, surrounded by big books about Riches. And some people who remember all the details for numerous Rich genealogies. Mary L.
There may be some connections of a Rich family to the 'Maine Riches" I don't have the genealogies here--they are on Cape Cod, if the connection is to Richard Rich of Eastham. I will be going to the Cape to do the summer Kinfolk next month and will take your message in hard copy and ask around. Maybe I can find someone with e-mail to answer or I will do it when I return home. NO index of Kinfolk--other that in the head of the editor who is very knowledgable about most of the Riches we deal with. An extended file of some sort is being don by Don Rich. I hope he comes and answers that question. Glad you like Kinfolk. We are always glad to get any feed back at all about it. Suggestions for improvement will always be considered and I hope we don't consider and then go on as we always have. We did that when it was suggested that we put the table of contents inside and "advertise" on the cover. Several who use if for genealogy opted for leaving on the front--easier to scan when you have to go through a lot of copies. Maybe we're just pig headed. (BG) ML in VT
