i am presently re -watching the ROOTS miniseries on the Hallmark station. I may be completely off base here, but in watching i am reminded that the slave owner of the movie's main character, Kunte Kinte was a John REYNOLDS of Spotsylvania Co., VA.....assuming the book was written by Alex Haley as a true story of his ancestry, am wondering if the slave owner, REYNOLDS, was indeed based on fact??......does anyone know if this John REYNOLDS was really the "owner" of Kunte Kinte, and that he really did exist....??....and if so......does anyone have any info on this John REYNOLDS ancestry or descendants.??... being a REYNOLDS descendant, myself, of folk from Maryland, i am wondering if there is some kind of connection to my REYNOLDS......this John REYNOLDS appears in the film as a man aged about 50 to 60 years old and "purchased" Kunte Kinte upon his arrival on the Lord Ligonier in Annapolis MD harbor in September of 1767, and John, according to the movie, had a brother named Dr. William REYNOLDS.. perhaps more clues to his ancestry and family will present themselves as the miniseries progresses........ just a thought......any info appreciated.....thanks.....Joe
