    3. I am struggling to understand what is contained in the following writing. I believe what the author means is: The primary goal of the Reynolds Y-DNA Project and the Chelsea Project is to help individuals [Reynolds] to locate genetic cousins. The following is the excerpt I received from Reynolds RootsWeb. > > chelsea > > is doing is reynolds dennings cogans benson devers mccarthys pooles > > winsors > > ect who lived in chelsea and the towns unlike the y projects working on y > > chromosomes passed by fathers. these will eventually hook up sires. > > > > chelsea is looking for relationships sideways marrages and cousins. > > i dont want reynolds unless they tie to chelsea. it wouldnt be ogood for > > you > > or us. but if you did have chelsea ties the amounbt of intermarriages is > > up > > to you to imagineventually the teo types of projects will be different > > and > > you will be able to be in both . not now > > > > but that is really not important since once you are processed you are > > compared to every one else > > > > its good for the people in the projects to see results when they come to > > the > > pages "For you who are checking this out it is a Project for the towns of Chelsea, Revere [No. Chelsea ,Prattsville,] and Winthrop Massachusetts. We are doing this in conjuction with the MACHELSEA-L@rootsweb.com mailing list. It is a special list which you can see the archives from at http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/MACHELSEA/" The Chelsea, Revere and Winthrop MA are three specific towns where Reynolds may have lived, the project is seeking anyone with Reynolds roots [to do a DNA test] who may have lived there once upon a time. "The MACHELSEA-L@Rootsweb.com mailing list is interested in expanding its goal of achieving the genealogy of Chelsea, Winthrop, Revere [No. Chelsea Prattsville] Ma.. These three towns have served as a haven and resting place for people who have migrated from other lands to a new one. Ever since its commission it has served that purpose." These people interacted and this is an attempt to show that story. The URL is the archives http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/MACHELSEA/ Hopefully soliciting for Reynolds, as well as other family's DNA will allow the project to move one step closer to solving the puzzles, i.e., "brickwalls" that exist in many family history pursuits. "Patronymic naming systems only started being adopted after a certain point in time. This may lead to people with different surnames having matches because their common ancestor lived in the same village. For some groups it may have happened at a quite remote time, but for others it may be fairly recent - going back to only a few hundreds of years. Therefore, geographical based projects may be of great help in furthering one's genealogy not only as a way to help enhance the family's history beyond the people's connection, going into the geographical aspects of it, and at the same time giving additional clues in situations of limited paper trail." "We will cover any name found in the three towns. But the idea is that you have records of someone from the towns. It is designed to confirm the relationships between families of Chelsea, Revere and Winthrop Ma. The list members have many connections already. The idea is to also establish links we do not have yet on paper . Giving you a better conception of what paper trails will be beneficial to follow" The purpose of the Reynolds Surname DNA Project is to provide information that aids genealogists researching the REYNOLDS surname. By performing Y-DNA tests on males with the surname REYNOLDS and its various spellings, we can build a database with the many Reynolds lines and group them by their DNA signatures. As DNA signature groups are being formed, we are comparing the lineage of individuals with the lineage of others in the same group in the hope of finding links or the common ancestor between the various Reynolds families. As more people are tested and more Reynolds are identified, we will be able to establish a genealogy DNA identifier for the Reynolds immigrant ancestor or for a particular Reynolds oldest known progenitor of the line. Both projects seek similar goals: to identify a Reynolds genealogy. With respect to both projects, the primary goal is to help individuals locate genetic cousins. My point in responding to all of this is to make sure that readers are aware of the current Y-DNA Reynolds Project already in place. I support and recommend the Chelsea, MA project. Thanks for reading this rather lengthy email.
