    2. Angela Maskell
    3. Would like to hear from anyone who thinks there might be a link with my REYNOLDS who were born in London area (St. Pancras) 1800s (Thomas REYNOLDS) and prior and his son John Napoleon REYNOLDS who went to live in Australia (have yet to find the vessel he sailed on) etc. In particular I would like to make contact with another REYNOLDS researcher called Geoff Reynolds whose family came from Cornwall. We have been in touch, but I have lost his email address, so please contact me. I haven't found out any more information unfortunately,Geoff but would still like you to make contact please. Best wishes Angela angela.maskell@1066ad.com

    1. [Reynolds] Rennels Family Reunion
    2. David Coy
    3. The 68th Annual RENNELS Family Reunion will be held on Saturday and Sunday, August 2 and 3, 2003 at Charleston, Coles County, Illinois. This Reunion is composed of descendants of John Rennels, Sr. (1781-1866) and his wife, Nancy Ewing Bland Rennels (1787-1867), early settlers of Hutton Township, Coles County, Illinois, via Sussex County, Delaware; Madison County, Kentucky; Lawrence County, Indiana, and Vermilion County, Indiana. This year we will be participating in the dedication ceremony of the Five Mile House Museum on Sunday, 3 August 2003, at 3:00 P.M. The Rennels Family has been very involved in both the history and restoration of this former way-side inn, 5 miles south east of Charleston, Illinois. Hundreds of covered wagons left from this site for the west and Abraham Lincoln supposedly watered his horse from the well while riding the court circuit. The Rennels Family Reunion contributed over $10,000.00 to the restoration project, besides countless volunteer man hours. On Saturday, August 2nd we will have a genealogy research day, starting at 10:00 A.M. at the Charleston Public Library, with a special presentation on the Five Mile House by David Kent Coy at 1:00. Later in the afternoon we will tour the long-abandoned Stewart Family Cemetery in Hutton Township. On Sunday, August 3rd we will meet at 12:30 P.M. at the Charleston VFW Hall for a potluck meal, followed by a short business meeting, then go on to the Five Mile House Dedication. The Rennels Fireplace in the east pavilion of Morton Park has also had some recent restoration work done and will be available for photographs. Thank you. For more information, please contact: David Kent Coy 123 North 20th Street Decatur, IL 62521-2114 (217) 420-4378 davidkentcoy@mcleodusa.net

    2. To Lee Bateman, Charles Jackson Reynolds If my line is correct, and I don't have it documented very well, Charles Jackson was the son of Thomas (according to Tillman) and the brother to Patrick who I THINK is my gggrandfather. I finally found Patrick, thanks to Terry Mann, as Patrick Runnels in Meriwether County, GA. So, if you haven't already done so, look for RUNNELS; he might be there. Jodie Nelson

    1. [Reynolds] REYNOLDS Family Letter
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old letter written by Elizabeth REYNOLDS of Oil City, Pennsylvania to her husband G.E.W. REYNOLDS who was serving with Company D, 16th Regiment, Icd Brigade, WPD at Camp Samuel Crinnford(?) in Gettysburg, PA. The letter was written August 14th 1894 on Oil City Steam Laundry Co. Ltd. office stationary. Elizabeth speaks of a trip she and her Mother took to Tryonville and that her cousin took them to Alta's home for a visit. She refers to a letter received from Georgia and notes that Georgia is happy with married life. Elizabeth tells him that her Mother and Charly will probably stay with them during the winter. I'm hoping to locate someone from their family so that this precious family heirloom can be returned to the family. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    1. [Reynolds] Richard REYNOLDS / info by S.F. Tillman
    2. Hi list, I joined a couple of weeks ago but have not posted yet. I've been meaning to make a post about the book "Rennolds-Reynolds" Family Roster by Stephen F. Tillman. Two or three people have pointed out to me that it is full of bad info and I concur, but it does not seem to be general knowledge. Tillman lists Richard (he gives a middle name of Spencer) REYNOLDS born about 1749, with son Spencer listed by many as being born about 1770. Way off, and I'll tell you why! I have copies of a family Bible with the birthdate of Richard C. REYNOLDS (son of Spencer, son of Richard). He was born, and I quote, "27 Novb 1771-2." I'm not sure what the deal is with the "1-2", but this Bible begins with his and his wife's info, followed by all their children's info, so I believe it belonged to him originally and later went to his daughter Phoebe. This date of 1771-2 means his father, Spencer, could not have been born 1767, and indeed, would have to have been born prior to 1755 at the very latest (making him only 16/17 at the child's birth, which was not common for men of that time), and probably closer to 1750, or earlier. In addition, researcher Richard Waggener (http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/w/a/g/Rick--Waggener/GENE7-0002.html) has discovered a July 1754 Orange Co., VA land rental contract for the "natural lives of Richard, Spencer and George REYNOLDS.... or longest liver" Since Spencer was the older son, this means he was born by 1752 at the very latest, but probably a couple or a few years earlier than that. Now, looking at the 1767 date given for Spencer by those who cleaned up the Moses Steele Cemetery in Flat Creek (Williamson Co., Tennessee), I wonder if the stone might have said 1747. I'm pretty sure it is the right Spencer, since his wife Phoebe (WAGGENER) REYNOLDS is also buried there (Her stone is listed as saying died 1893, age 70. I believe that date was really 1823. Maybe somebody added the 70 when transcribing). Okay, so if Spencer was born about 1750, his father Richard wasn't born 1749! More like 1730 or sooner. The earliest record I'm aware of is the 1754 land indenture, when he already had two young sons. There are other errors to be addressed. Tillman apparently mixed up two of the Reubens, and gave some children to the wrong people, but I don't have the proper information to correct it yet. Chandra Dawson Martin

    3. Re: 1. E Ross REYNOLDS - husband 2. Millicent Reid PORTEOUS - wife 3. Stewart REYNOLDS - son My grandfather's sister, Millicent Reid PORTEOUS (b. 1878 in Stratford, Ontario), married E. Ross REYNOLDS and lived in South Orange, New Jersey from about 1925 until her death in 1945. My grandfather and his other siblings all moved to Saskatchewan from Ontario, Canada, in the early 1900s and one theory I have is that Millicent may have met her future husband somewhere in Western Canada (the last reference to Millie is in 1906 when she was boarding with her uncle, Mark Porteous, in Winnipeg, Manitoba). The 1930 US census for New Jersey, Enumeration District 7-602 (Pages 19 and 20) shows that they had a son whose first name was Stewart, a quite common given name in our family, perhaps inherited from Millie's US born grandmother, Margaret STEWART - about whose origins I know nothing. The odds that Stewart REYNOLDS is still living are probably quite poor... The city directory for South Orange, NJ lists the family at 388 Clark Street; they ran a dry cleaning/tailoring business by the name of Reynolds Brothers. Has anyone researching REYNOLDS come across this family? Thanks very much! --Doug Porteous Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada http://www.novateq.ca/genealogy/

    1. [Reynolds] Reynolds, Foster and Barrel
    2. I am searching for the family of John Reynolds b abt 1776 in perhaps the Philly area and Hester Foster b abt 1779 in also the Philly, Montgomery Co areas. I would like to add to the information I do know about this family from a history of Northumberland Co book. I can't find John or the Foster and Barrel families anywhere. Thank you Valerie Reynolds FROM GEN. AND BIOGRAPHICAL ANNALS OF NORTHUMBERLAND CO, PENN 1911 p 435 REYNOLDS. The name Reynolds has long been a respected one in the borough of Turbutville, well and favorably known in business and public circles, and two of its worthy representatives there at the present time are Henry Abram Reynolds, justice of the peace, and William N. Reynolds, merchant. They are descendants of John and Hester (Foster) Reynolds, who were married in October, 1797, at which time he was in his "twenty-first year of age" and she was in her "eighteenth year of age." Their children were born as follows: William, Jan. 20, 1799, at 10 a. m.; Grace, Dec. 30, 1801, at 5:30 a.m.; George June 12, 1803, at 10 p.m.; Philip, June 20, 1806, at 6 p.m.; Eliza, Dec. 27, 1808, at 7 p.m.; Henry, Dec. 16, 1810, at 11 a.m.; Hiram, Oct 3, 1812, at 4 p. m. Of this family, Grace died June 26, 1805. William Reynolds, son of John, born Jan. 20, 1799, in Montgomery county, Pa., lived for some time at Willow Grove, in that county, was at one time a resident of Schuylkill Haven, and later came to Turbutville, Northumberland county, where he was a pioneer innkeeper. In his earlier manhood he had followed farming and shoemaking. Some time before his death he moved to a farm in Anthony township, Montour county, where he passed the remainder of his days. He is buried at the Warrior Run church. He married Hester Barrel, and they had the following children: Ella married Dr. Cotner; Mary married Isaac Reader, (second) George Christman and (third) D. H. Dreisbach; John lived and died at Turbutville; Himan lived for the most part in Turbutville, where he kept a hotel, later lived on a farm in Delaware township, and then moved to the Sulphur Springs hotel, in Lycoming county, Pa., where he died; George is mentioned below; William was a hotel-keeper in Pennsylvania, later moving out to Illinois, where he engaged in farming, and he died at Kingston, that state; Catharine married Jacob Smith and they lived and died at Schuyler, Pa.; Louise is the wife of D. P. Dreisbach and. they live at Turbutville; Eliza married James Leech, a farmer, and they moved from Montgomery county to Northumberland county. Henry Reynolds, son of John and Hester (Foster) Reynolds, was born Dec. 16, 1810, in the neighborhood of Willow Grove, Montgomery Co., Pa. He was a shoemaker, his brothers George and Hiram also learning the trade. For some time he lived near Turbutville, in Lewis township, Northumberland county, later moving to Lycoming county, and thence to Montour county, where he continued to live until his death. He enlisted for service in the Civil war, but was accidentally killed March 15, 1863, at Turbutville, before entering the army. He and his wife, Kitty Ann (Barrel), who died March 28, 1880, aged sixty-three years, nine months, eighteen days, are buried side by side in the old grave yard, at Turbutville. She was a sister of Hester Barrel, wife of his brother William. Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Reynolds, namely: Theodore lives in Anthony township, Montour county;
