Hello, Marti: I have placed 7 pages of data on your G-G-Grandmother Lucinda Garrison in the mail for your assistance. Glad you asked! Hollis Bond
Joanne..a lot of people were Quakers BEFORE the Revolutionary War and not afterwards cuz they took exception to redcoats marching across their land, etc...Since they couldn't fight and remain in the Quaker church, many of them chose to fight and never went back to be reinstated later. Some of my ancestors who were at Guilford did that very thing, I suspect, as I find the name as Quakers earlier but not after the war. So you may be able to find records of your Reynolds in Quaker records dating prior to the war. You could send for his military pension records if he fought in the RW..if he or his wife applied for the pension you might get a lot of information there. I haven't sent for the pension records for mine as yet, but I believe that you will need either the information as to which unit he was in or else his birthdate. You could also check the DAR book to see if someone else has joined using his service........and perhaps get the information there. Good luck! marti
Is anyone researching Orlanzo Wells of Greenfield, Pa? I've figured out who his mother is, in case anyone is interested. This was tricky to figure out due to name changes. By the way, in case you never thought of it, be alert for ancestors who swap their first and middle names. I have found so many instances of it in my own family tree that I suspect it may have been a fashion for a time to use first initial and middle name. In my family tree, early settlers George & Marcy/Mercy (Arnold) Reynolds of Clifford, Susq. Co., Pa had a daughter Marcy/Mercy (b. ca 1816) who married a Lewis Wells. There are tons of Wells in 1850 Clifford, Pa, including 3 Williams in Clifford & a William L. in Dimock, but no Lewis. In 1850 Greenfield, just south of Clifford, there is a Lewis Wells, married to Mercy with kids Orlanzo and Sheffield. (Sheffield is a family name in my Reynolds line, and also the name of Mercy Sr.'s brother.) The tricky part comes in because this Lewis turned into another William L. by 1860 census, and his son Sheffield became William S. but by the 1870 census he returned to Sheffield. I am speculating that, with 4 other William Wells nearby, "Lewis" used his middle name to avoid confusion. Well, it sure caused some confusion on my part! I am pretty sure that it is the same guy because they're on the same farm, same ages, unusual names Orlanzo & Sheffield, obvious transformation of Sheffield into William & back, Orlanzo written up in a historical bio spent his life on the same farm, etc. 1850 Greenfield Twp Wells, Lewis age 30 Wells, Mercy age 29 Wells, Orlanzo, age 5 Wells, Sheffield, age 3 1860 Greenfield Twp Wells, William L., 45 Wells, Mercy, 44 Wells, Alonzo, 14 Wells, William S. 12 Wells, George M. 9 Wells, Franklin, 6 Wells, Samuel, 4 1870, Greenfield Twp Wells, William L. 53 Wells, Mercy, 54 Wells, Sheffield, 21 Wells, George M., 17 Wells, Franklin, 16 Wells, Samuel, 14 Wells, Orlanzo, 24 Wells, Julietta, 19 Wells, William L., 1 I'd like to compare notes with other researchers. Thanks, Susan

Hello, Jan: I find no new data on Thomas Reynolds and Christian Moor (Except her furst name as Christina) but I may have some new data on Peter and family. He married Eleanor Earing, b. 24 Aug 1803, then he married Maria Margaret Lape, then some records show he was also married to Nelly Earing. But since the Surrogate Court of Rensselaer County, NY, shows that his wife at the time of his death on January 1, 1870, was Maria, I have concluded that the report of his third marriage is a mistake, and that "Nelly" Earing is simply the nickname of Eleanor Earing. The same court record shows his children as Ebenezer, Christina, Phebe, and Margaret. Peter was a farmer and owned 132 acres of land. Christina Moor was born 1757 in NY. Peter Reynolds is buried in Lutheran Cemetery, Sand Lake, NY I will assume you have all the data on children of Peter and Eleanor.
