Since I posted the query I have discovered that my particular Maria was born in Pennsylvania or Maryland, depending on which of her daughters replies to the 1880 census I choose. I suspect she was a child of Reynolds from Maryland who had moved to PA. 2. I have done some work on the Essex County, NJ Reynolds family, but it has been slim pickings. The turns up as Runnals in hte 18th century in Essex. Part of the family settled along the upper Passaic River. This is west of Newark and forms the boundary between Essex and Morris counties. They mixed with the Squire family and attended the Presbyterian Church of Hanover, Morris County. In the early 19th century, there were several of the family named William and Abraham. An Abraham Reynolds was sherrif in the 1830s. Regrettably, I don't know of any that went to Ohio, but a lot of NJ people went to Ohio.

Do you know anything about a William REYNOLDS who moved to Bartholomew County, Indiana? He may have been related to a Miles REYNOLDS. William's wife. She moved to Minnesota after his death and remarried a Luker.
