Am researching the Raynolds family (obviously, a particular line--and one that generally spelled the name with an A, not an E)...One of the direct ancestors of my clients was "James Madison Raynolds" (often called just "Madison"....1808, Muskingum Co, OH to 1883, Canton,. Stark Co, OH)...I find it hard to imagine he was in Jackson Co, IL, in (was it 1840)...He was a merchant in Canton, and a prominent citizen...One source is Memorial Sermon... on the Life and Works of James Madison Raynolds, by a man/minister named Latter, in Canton, when he died. On second thought, Reynolds by whatever spelling wasn't that uncommon a name, and it wouldn't have been unusual for a son to be named after the fourth President. So I suppose it's a different person. But let me know if you think there's anything worth pursuing... Brian

I have not been able to find anything on her birth or her parents Mary & Robert. I have checked the 1881 UK census and cannot locate them there either. They sailed to either Canada or US in 1893 (info on MA 1900 census) Can anyone connect Mary or May with their Reynolds line? Sherry

Surnames: Reynolds, Woolsey and McMurtry Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TJDBAIB/3654 Message Board Post: Hello I am looking for information on the following families. I think they are all related but have not figured out how yet, that's were I need your help. This family gets confusing and I will try not to confuse you too much. These are just small pieces to the larger picture that I know is out there. I am searching for the parents of: Stephen Woolsey Reynolds born between 1800 and 1810 in TN. In 1828, Greene Co. TN married Mary "Polly" McMurtry born abt 1809 in E. TN. Have seen messages on the message boards from Pat Ridpath who said that Mary had a brother named Thomas and that Mary and Thomas were Stephen's cousins. (Pat, if you read this please contact me at [email protected]). Between 1832 and 1834, Stephen and Mary moved to Missouri. MADDUX FAMILY IN LIVINGSTON COUNTY - 1857 (Partial) Narrator: M.W. Maddux, 73, of Breckenridge Mr. Maddux was born 1861 in Mooresville, Livingston County, Missouri. His parents were Thos. B. and Abigail Reynolds Maddux. The father was born in Kentucky, the mother in Tennessee. Both were brought when about two years old to Missouri. The fathers parents went to Ft. Peinich, Howard County, the mother's to Livingston County. S.W. Reynolds was in Mooresville township in 1835 and Henry in 1836. I have that Abigail was the daughter of William Reynolds (born 1810 Knoxville, TN) and Sarah Woolsey (born 1815 TN), born 1832 in Greene Co. TN. Married Thomas Benton Maddux 27 Dec 1855 in Livingston Co. MO. I do not know what relationship S. W. Reynolds had with this family but sure would like to know. In 1837, Stephen Woolsey Reynolds of Carroll Co. MO. received a land patent in Livingston Co. MO. In 1838, Stephen Woolsey Reynolds of Carroll Co. MO received a land patent in Caldwell Co. In 1840, Stephen and family lived in Clinton Co. MO. Early Livingston Co. MO Deed Records, Indenture 21 March 1842 between Stephen W. Reynolds and Mary, his wife, of Daviess Co. MO......and William Reynolds of Livingston Co. MO. In 1850, Mary and the children are listed in the Daviess Co. Census. Children are: John b. abt 1829 TN Mary K b. abt 1831 TN James b. abt 1832 TN Sarah b. abt 1834 MO Stephen b. 1837 in Livingston Co. MO Thomas b. abt 1839 MO Elizabeth b. abt 1841 MO Robert b. abt 1843 MO Joseph b. abt 1845 MO Adaline b. abt 1849 MO Stephen is gone between 1848 and 1850. I don't know if he died or ran off. I have seen the Reynolds listed at Renolds, Runnles and Runels There was another Stephen Woolsey Reynolds that was born 16 March 1837 near Knoxville, TN. He was the son of William Reynolds, born 1810 Knoxville, TN, died 12 March 1862 in Livingston Co. MO and Sarah Woolsey, born 1815 in TN. Sarah was the daughter of Gilbert Woolsey and Abigail Woolsey. Abigail's parents were Zephaniah Woolsey and Sarah Ann Crouch. Next family, William Reynolds b. 1781 in Greene Co. TN. Died 1838 in Camp Creek, Greene Co. TN. Married Ruth Woolsey b. 1777 in Ulster Co. NY. Died Greene Co. MO (Note: Ruth had a brother named Stephen). Ruth's parents were Zephaniah Woolsey and Sarah Ann Crouch. The only child I have seen listed for William and Ruth is Abigail Reynolds born 1813 Greene Co. TN. She married James McMurtry 1833 Greene Co. TN. Now, within this family are the Surnames I am searching for, Reynolds, Woolsey and McMurtry. Does anyone have anymore children listed for William and Ruth? I think they are the link I am looking for. And now, Hannah Woolsey, dau. of Zephaniah Woolsey and Sarah Ann Crouch married Thomas Reynolds in 1808 Greene Co. TN. Does anyone have anything on Thomas? Any information on these families would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Reynda
