You might try e-mailing Randy and asking him if the Collins (Hannah's father or brothers) family might have fought for the south. Just an idea. Anyway, tell your mother I said hello. Cousin Carol

She is listed as the sister-in-law of John Eslick whose wife is Margaret. The age is right for MEB but I have not been able to verify this is the same as my Mary Elizabeth Brown.

Unfortunately, I know little about him except that he was married to a woman named Mae in South Carolina. They had a daughter in 1907 (name unknown) and my grandfather in 1910 (named Paul). Jess seems to have moved around a lot in the southern U. S. having left my great grandmother when the children were young. There was a rumor that he died in North Carolina and also that he may have driven race cars at one time. I know it will be difficult to find anything about someone with so little information to go on, but I hope I might get lucky and discover something. Thanks!

I have told so many people but not sure if I told you that "Manervey Reynolds" is living next door to her ex. husband Joseph C. Reynolds in 1900. Can you tell me when Manerva (Morgan) and Joseph C. Reynolds were officially divorced? In the census Manerva's name is missspelled as "Manervey... has her 9 year old son William C. and her 18 year old daughter Mary living with her in the 1900 Letcher County KY census. So yes they didn't just divorce and go thier separate ways....they continued to live next door to eachother. Do you know if she had another spouse at any time? I have a marriage date of February 9, 1868 for Manerva and Joseph. Is this correct? In the census "Manervey" lists herself as widowed (and not divorced). Joseph is 51 living next door to her. Joseph lists himself as married but there is no wife living with him only his "widowed" ex wife age 49 is living next door. He is with his "servant Hotence", Hortence lists herself as age 50 widowed and working for Joseph as his white servant and then marries him the following year. There is a 1 year old Margie living with Joseph and Hotence in 1900...James is 4 Aggie is 5 and my Coleman is 7. Do you suppose Hortence or Manerva gave birth to a child at age 49 or 50? It can happen...but your theory could be correct. These young children could be of other women. I think this is where my father's story comes into play. Coleman told me that he was told his mother died. I met Coleman's 1/2 sister, this "one year old Margie" when she was an elderly woman married to George Rogers and lived in Lexington Kentucky...this is where grandpa Joseph C. Reynolds is burried somewhere ! near Margie's home. Margie and my Coleman were only 1/2 siblings..this is a fact not a guess....meaning if Hortence was Margie's mother then Joseph had to have another mother. I can not see a 1 year old child living with anyone but her mother unless her mother was dead or living nearby or an adoption. Amanda was born after this census. Hortence did probably give birth after age 50? I just can not figure this out! There was a records fire, and as far as I know my father, Coleman b. 1892, his birth records were suposedly destroyed so I assume the other records were also distroyed. It would solve all our answers about who's mother is who. If there is another parent to these kids I would look for someone with the name of Christopher. Although I was only 9 when my father Coleman died...I remember him telling me that if I had been a boy I would have been named Christopher...I though he said Christopher was my Grandfather....but the Joe C. Reynolds photo d. 1928 is suposed to be my grandfather. Maybe this Christopher is from his maternal side? Or maybe I misunderstood. Any way happy hunting...we will figure it all out eventually I hope. Kristie

I am stumped on my Noah Milburn b. 1808 Va. I had believed at one time that Noah and Joseph could be brothers. Joseph came to Kentucky much earlier than Noah. Noah came to Letcher in 1855 if not a few years earlier. The name Joseph has continued down the line from Noah's son Joseph Coleman to my son of 15 Joseph Adam. Another possibility is the Reynolds family from Maryland. They had a Noah and I believe a Joseph also. There is also one researcher with some of the family names in North Carolina. One more I should mention..A few researchers say that Noah is the Grandson or Great (I forget the dates) of John Reynolds (sorry I can't remember the wifes name just now) descendant of Christopher. John was from Virginia also, 1720 I believe. I have a small amount of information on Joseph/Queentina if you don't have anything. Any thoughts appreciated. Christine Reynolds

I suppose that it is possible that JC and Manerva got together again after their divorce. This could be why there is a William Cody. Other possibilities are some of JC's brothers. All Kentuckians seem to be in the habit of taking in children of their relatives. Does anyone have a child list for Stephen and Drucilla? Would also like your thoughts on how we can obtain birth records for Letcher. Do either of you know if the Historical Society can be contacted through e-mail. And the most important of all...Please don't leave me out if you can get the picture of Manerva on-line!! What a wonderful find. Just so you know, I sent a COMPLETE Reynolds file to George Reynolds, son of Morgan T. He is 86. I asked him all about Hortence and kids and sent copies of letters from Kristi and Sage. I am sorry to say that in his Christmas card, he only thanked me for the stuff and said what a great job I have done. I was hoping for some answers. Sorry. I will try again with a MUCH smaller lsit of questions. Christine
