I am seeking descendants of Hosea Renshaw & Wife Nancy. Although I am not a Renshaw descendant, I believe that Nancy may have been a McAdams & possibly a sister of my g-g Grandfather, Wm. S. McAdams. The Hosea Renshaw family is found in Washington County, Tennessee. The 1850 census lists Hosea, 49; Nancy, 44; Amanda, 19; Saraphina, 19; Elizabeth, 16; Julia, 12; Robert, 13; Jane, 10; John, 7; W., 5; Cath. R., 1. Also in the household is Mary McAdams, aged 74. I believe Mary to be Mary SLAUGHTER McAdams, my ancestor. Mary McAdams made application in 1853 for bounty land based on the service of her late husband, Robert in the War of 1812. In this application she mentioned data from a family bible. If she was living with the Renshaw's when she died, I'm hoping that bible might exist among descendants. One of Hosea & Nancy's sons, Robert, I have found to have been named Robert McAdams Renshaw. He went to Montana in the 1860s and became a gold miner there. He later moved to California where he died. Born Aug 1, 1836 in TN., died Feb 26, 1917, 80 yrs, 6 mo., 25 da. Was a retired miner. Lists fathers name as James Renshaw, birthplace unknown, mother's name as McAdams, birthplace unknown. Informant was Robert R. Renshaw of Atwater, CA. Dr. was C.B. Caldwell, cause of death was Cerebral Thrombosis. Buried Feb. 28 in Inglewood Cemetery, L.A. Renaken Co. of Monrovia was undertaker. Robert M. Renshaw left a son, Robert R. He is found in the California death index: California Death Index, 1940-49; listing for Robert R. Renshaw. Died 15 June 1949 in Los Angeles County, CA. Social Security # 551-10-5485. Spouse's initials: I.R. Any help would be appreciated. Would any California resident know how I might find a death certificate or obit that might list descendants of this Robert R.? Hope these names might ring a bell with some one.
