Muster Rolls of the Virginia Volunteers 1917-1920 The Virginia Volunteers for the period 1917-1920 were the state's solution to being left without a National Guard during World War I. These men voluntarily joined the Virginia Volunteers organization for service within the state at the call of the governor. When World War I was over, and the National Guard resumed its pre-war position as Virginia's militia, the Virginia Volunteers were disbaned. I found a site that has the men who volunteered for the National Guard in Virginia during World War I: http://www.ls.net/~newriver/va/vavolww1.htm#tpg I believe I may have found 4 of my relatives. Three are RENSHAWs: Renshaw, A. Renshaw, S. T. Renshaw, W. J. Lufsey, J. H. It's my belief that S. T. RENSHAW may be Silas Treadway RENSHAW. W. J. RENSHAW may be William James RENSHAW, Jr. They would both be my granduncles. I have no idea who this A. RENSHAW is. I do have a cousin named Albert RENSHAW, but he would have been too young to be in the military since he was born in 1916, and is the son of William James RENSHAW, Jr. Father of Silas Treadway RENSHAW and William James RENSHAW, Jr. was William James RENSHAW, Sr. The other possible relative listed is J. H. LUFSEY. This could be my grandfather James Howard LUFSEY. He married Martha Louise "Mattie" RENSHAW in Petersburg on June 7, 1911...one day after his 15th birthday. He was 19 years old. I'll be trying to obtain records on these men. Tina Ellis
