Hi Everyone, I am visiting my daughter in Louisville Kentucky. In this city is Cave hill Cemetery, established in 1848. I had a lead on another family line, that a possible ancestor was buried in this Cemetery. So off we went to investigate. Being a die hard RENSHAW researcher, while in the cemetery office I asked if any RENSHAW'S were buried here. Well, there are seven in two plots, but all are related. So here is the info and I also have photo's of the grave sites and the hard copies of the cemetery records. If any of these belong to you please contact me at mylhasa@softcom.net. I am temporarily using AOL while here in Kentucky, when I get home 3/27/00 will be glad to scan hard copies and photo's to anyone interested. I also have had the opportunity to visit Louisville Public Lib. They have a wonderful collection of birth & death records in book form. I copied several pages from various years. Will post later. Hope to get back to the lib. Before the week ends and get the rest. To the gentlemen in Southern Ca, who had asked me for a look up at Sutro. I am sorry I have forgotten your name. Louisville Lib, has a collection of books from Indiana, please forward your original request to me at mylhasa40@aol.com , they may have this book. The following is the cemetery records and I am including birth dates as shown on the stones. Miss Elizabeth Renshaw b. 1895 d. 1918 buried (bu.)10/18/1918 Homer S. Renshaw b. 1863 d. 1928 bu. 5/22/1928 Mrs. Metta Renshaw Brinke b. 1901 d. 1931 bu. 6/9/1931 Mrs . Lettie Quast Renshaw b. 1871 d. 1931 bu. 10/4/1961 Miss Marguerite m. Renshaw b. 1893 d. 1979 bu. 5/18/1979 Homer Q. Renshaw b. 1905 d. 1982 bu. 9/27/1982 All of the above are buried in the same plot. In a separate plot is buried this lady, however the cemetery record states this is the wife of Homer Q. Renshaw: Mrs. Sarah Bohan Renshaw b. 6-18-1904 d. Nov 4 1960 Directly behind the grave of this lady is the grave of one William Potter Bohan b. 2/!5/!903 d. 8/31/1955 Believe good chance these two are related. BTW Louisville is in Jefferson County. I hope this helps some of you KY researchers. I also hope if anyone connects they would let me know. Later posts will have Renshaws from these counties: Hopkins Henderson Christian Green Grayson Gwen Renshaw Maurer

Hi Folks, Does anyone have a copy of "Renshaw Reflections" they would be willing to sell? Or where I might be able to obtain a copy? Thanks!! Doris Moore
During one of my recent forays into looking for where Thomas F. Renshaw was buried (he owned property near Hardin in both Allamakee and Clayton County, Iowa), I found the following record in a Rootsweb file. Hardin Cemetery, Franklin Township, Allamakee County, Iowa (.75 miles north of Clayton County line): Renshaw, Easom J. b. 1874 June 9 d. 1876 August 9 Renshaw, Ella M. b. 1867 May 3 d. 1868 April 8 daughter of ME & LA Renshaw. I can't find any Renshaws in my files for the descendants of James & Araminta Renshaw with the initials ME. However, I do have a Marshall Pierce Renshaw (son of Thomas F.) married to a Laura A. (last name unknown). He would have been 20 when Ella Renshaw was born. Could these have been his children? Does anyone have a reference to a M.E. Renshaw living in this area during this time frame? Any help would be appreciated. Victoria L. Gwen & Eleanor, This is rather a long e-mail, but I've been researching the Renshaw family for over 20 years and have it (them) extremely confusing & frustrating. I've not had much research time in the past several years (taking over directorship of a library, moving into a new house, etc.), but I do tend to "lurk" on the listserv and tinker with the research periodically. Evelyn & I have corresponded several times over the past two years. When she first got started I sent her a GEDCOM file with all my research on the James & Araminta Renshaw file. I believe we are related through them. Unfortunately, I've never found any mention of them having a son Thomas F, even thought the circumstantial evidence points in that direction. For instance, Thomas and his children are not mentioned in James' will, but then neither is James Jr. and his children. Thomas F. was married to Mary McKean and some of James Sr's property adjoined that of Mary's father John. See what I mean about frustrating. If any can provide me with a definitive link it would be greatly appreciated. In the meantime-- Eleanor-- I've searched numerous Iowa records for the Renshaws. The only mention of Harry Renshaw is in a letter on land records, I received from the Clerk in Clayton County. The information reads: Harry Renshaw to Dietrich Stahl, Book J, Page 271 Conveys: NW SE 22-93-3 Dated Dec. 20, 1852 & filed July 14, 1854. There was no record of purchase in the information she sent. On reviewing the rest of the extract from the indexes I found the following. Thomas F. was buying and selling land in the area from 1854-1857; David L. (george's son) had a deed in 1854 (?); James (I think George's son), in 1856. Your George had two entries, both in 1856. Gwen-- According to my records, the 1880 Fayette County, PA census for German Township shows: James Renshaw, Jr., born ca. 1839 (son of James & Araminta Renshaw) was married to a Catherine, born ca. 1839 (no maiden name given). They had three children: George E., Mary H., and Carrie S. Except for the middle initials in the daughter's names, this matches the information in the Galley will. I agree that you've probably found a match. Good Luck hunting and hope this input helps a bit. Victoria L. Hi Eleanor, This morning I was reading through the will of Jonathan GALLEY, which I had printed out when doing a search for RENSHAW'S in the USGenWeb Archives. The heading is Wills: Jonathan GALLEY, 1852: German Twp., Fayette Co.,PA. I am posting this to the list rather than to directly to you, on the off chance some one else may see a connection. However I think these are good candidates for your line. Jonathan GALLEY was apparently a rather wealthy coal miner. Half way through the will he lists his eight daughters. Catherine being one of them, he states she intermarried James RENSHAW. Based on the time frame stated in the beginning of the referenced will, I am wondering if this could be the youngest son, of your James & Aramintha RENSHAW, who you have in your file as being born after 1814. Later on in the will he makes this declaration. "Seventh I will and devise, to my daughter Catherine RENSHAW, the tract of land in Nicholson Township, Fayette Co., which she now occupies, containing sixteen acres more or less and after her death to her two daughters, Mary Ann, intermarried with George WIEGLE and Carrie L. SCHNATTERLY intermarried with John SCHNATTERLY in fee simple to them their heirs and assigns." The will is dated Oct 4,1899 >From will book 11, p.325 1900 The beginning date preceding the will and the actual date of will was signed, is quite a span but, this particular version may have been an update to the original will written in 1852, think one would need to see the will book. Looking forward to your thoughts on this, Gwen Maurer

In a book about Garnavillo, Clayton County, Iowa entitled "Garnavillo - Gem of the Prairie", mention is made of Harry Renshaw who purchased land in Section 22-93-3 in 1852. My great great grandfather George S. Renshaw moved to Iowa, first to Delaware Co. and then to Clayton Co. in 1852, but I have never seen him listed as "Harry". Does anyone know of a Harry Renshaw in Iowa in 1852? Eleanor Gordon
Hi everyone, Someone on another list mentioned this URL to the Map Section of the Library of Congress http://lcweb2.loc.gov/ammem/gmdhtml/gmdhome.html. I found a great map of Philadelphia from 1752! It shows where all the families had their homesteads instead of showing roads. I've never seen anything like it. There is a 1777 update of this map as well. This is a great site try it out the Maps are from every where. Just type in the Name of City, county or state you are looking for in the search book. Gwen

Hi Donna, On Jan 23, I posted an abstract of the 1850 TN census that I obtained while in Salt Lake City. One of our list members had requested I do a look up in this book for another surname. So I also looked to see if there were any abstracts for RENSHAW'S. There were 7 Renshaw families. The second entry was for a HOSEA RENSHAW age 49 making his birth( abt 1801), b. NC. His wife is Nancy age 44 b.(abt 1806) in TN. also listed are 10 children. Twins Amanda & Saraphina age 19, b.( abt 1831)-- Elizabeth age 16 b. (abt 1834), Julia age 12 b. (abt 1838), Robert age 13 b. Also listed as part of the household is Mary McAAMS ( Nancy's mother?). I think this maybe your Hosea & Nancy RENSHAW.
