I received this letter in July 1982 I not sure if the person is still around. I retyped the letter as I having problem ;when I scanned and try to send ,came out incomplete .so .May be some info will help some one. She (Virginia R.Lawrence) writes: I have considerable data on the Maryland Renshaw's and my father once told me his people came from PA.Both his lines were in PA. The Phillips are everywhere. My line is JOHN PERRY RENSHAW b.1831/32 in Wilson Co.,TN. d 18 July 1863 Lake Providence Regimental Hospital,Lake Providence,LA.Union Army. John Perry was a brother to Elijah Simpson Renshaw which is Charles Dixon Renshaw's line.I can't seen to get out of TN.--Wilson Co. My other lines are Aplin,Alliston/Aliston(part Cherokee?), Carr, psbly Dine/VanDwyne,Cowsert,Newton,Phillips. I am enclosing a copy of an ancestor chart I prepared form the D.A.R. data on Lt.Thomas Renshaw(Rev.War).Since it covers both PA & WV.The data was submitted by Florence L. Renshaw Switzer, wife of James Donald Switzer,200 Euclid Ave.,Clarksburg,WV.This data was submitted prior to Mrs. Switzer's application for membership in the D.A.R. by Florence Renshaw Bowden(Natioal Member #178003), 84"V" St,,NW.Washington,DC. Also I compiled and publish a booklet of material I purchased when I first started my Renshaw medical research, turned out tobe total research as you can't do medical research without knowing who your ancestors were. This particular data was researched by Elizabeth Price Renshaw ,Born 1893 to Alfred Howard Renshaw and Lucy Jennings, probably in NY.state as he was born on Staten Island and her mother was buried at Troy,NY.in 1896.Alfred remarried to Lucy Braxton Hopkins probably of the Stephen Hopkins clan of the Mayflower and signer of the Compact. Don't know where/when Alfred died. I found thisbook of charts and loose notes in a MD genealogy book store. There was John Renshaw b.1798 Washington Co.,PA. married in Chillicothe.OH.-d. Madison Co.,IL. who had a son , John Webster Renshaw,b.in Madison Co.,IL. d.1903,in St.Clair Co.,IL. One was police magistrate in St.Louis(East St.Louis), one aMorrison, was a newspaper man. John Webster's son, John Winstanley Renshaw b 1877,St.Clair Co.,IL. d 1944 St.Louis.. Son of John Winstanley, John W. Renshaw, lives in Palmdale,CA Presently ,I am typing a final draft on an 83 page book about a bunch of Renshaw"s who were in various parts of England, dating back to 1400's .At least one of those mentioned in the book is thought to have migrated to the US and settled at Long Branch,NJ.. Some of this line descendants(Henry and wife Mary) were in New Orleans in 1850. Some went to South America and married into Spanish family,-was Ambassader or Consul General for US in Venezuela. Those Renshaw's were wealthy.-- A book was written by Walter Charles Renshaw of England and published in London in 1898. He gave 40 copies as gifts and did not distribute any others..The Mormon Library at Salt Lake City filmed it.I ordered through the Mormon Genealogy Library. It is very slow ,tedious project as written in Old English, some printed some handwritten. Oh yes here is what he sez,"A WilliamRenshaw who is stated to have been born in London May 1771,emigrated to America in August 8104 and died at Longbranch,USA 14 March 1824. For miscellaneous data,--David Renshaw,M.D.,Psychiatrist,in practice in Santa Barbara,CA.Has a brother Edward. They descend from William Bainbridge Renshaw who was a prominent figure in the Civil War and after whom the SS Renshaw was named during the Civil War.The ship was lost,I am told. --There was a Dr. Renshaw on the staff of a Toledo Hospital at one time,a neuro surgeon. There were also three daughters . This book goes on and on.. I have a Clarence Renshaw ,son of Hugh and "Aunt Melie" Renshaw who stated with myAunt Rose and Uncle Lester Baker near Golconda,Pope Co.,IL. His parents were living ,I guess, but the father couldn't or wouldn't provide for he and his brother,Burt,. I guess who stayed with a Mrs.McClanahan in that area. Hugh, his father, was said to be a "bad egg" by my informant. Hugh is the son of Elijah Simpson Renshaw and India Virginia Baker. Clarence died in 1970{location unknown). Sincerely,Virginia R. I have a Claud A. Renshaw born in Iowa, supposedly in November of 1891. However, an entry in the SSDI gives CLAUDE RENSHAW SSN 266-62-7215 Residence: 33411 West Palm Beach, Palm Beach, FL Born 9 Mar 1891 Died Jan 1984 Issued: FL (1958) The question is, is the Claude Renshaw in Debbie's obituary the same as the one in the SSDI and also the same as "my" Claud Renshaw? Mine was the son of Clarence Vernon Renshaw and Caroline Augusta Hollingsworth. Clarence was a grandson of my great great grandfather, George Renshaw. Eleanor
The following were also sent to me from Debbie if anyone knows of a connection please post back to the list. Thanks, Gwen Hi I wanted to share two obits my father-in-law sent me. His sister Jean lives in Philadelphia and likes reading the obituaries so cut out the following two Renshaw obits. We have no idea who they are. My father-in-law says they were in one of the more recent newspapers, which one and when I don't know but can find out. Claude Renshaw, 93, the city manager who helped make Miami Beach, Fla, on eof the nation's best-known resorts died Monday night in West Palm Beach where he lived with his son, Downer. He was born in Iowa. His first public-service job was as mayor of Roundup, Mont. He came to Miami Beach in 1925 and promptly was elected city manager. He held the post until 1958. He guided Miami Beach through the Depression, when it narrowly escaped default, and through World War II, when some of its finest hotels were pressed into duty as military quarters. After the war, he helped make the city one of the world's most famous vacation spots. He later left public service to head the Miami Beach Savings & Loan Association. -------------------------------------------- William Wiley Renshaw, Sr., 96, a retired principal and well-respected educator, died August 24, 2000 in Bremerton, Washington where he resided since 1985. Mastbaum Vocational Technical High School in Philadelphia as a teacher, vice principal and principal, a position he held for many years before retiring in 1969. Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Renshaw earned a Bachelor's degree is 1933 from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA and was graduated by the University of PA with a master's degree in Education in 1946. He was active in community and church affairs devoting much of his time to the promotion of the Boy Scouts of America and participating as a member of the vestry in the Episcopal Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Vivian Caldwell in 1984, and is survived by a son William W. Renshaw Jr, of Yardley PA, 2 daughters, Vivian Durfee of Bremerton WA, and Susan Hartzler of Midlothian VA, and 3 grandchildren. Services and burial will be held, beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Fre, September 15, 2000 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, West Whiteland, 901 E. Lincoln Hwy, Exton, PA 19341. The family suggests contributions to the William W. Renshaw Scholarship Fund at the Mastbaum Vocational Technical School, 3116 Frankford Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19134. Att. Hi Folks, I received this from a Deb who is researching one of our collateral lines. If this gentleman is yours please contact Debbie at: pmcculliss@earthlink.net " Hi Gwen, I haven't had any time to 'play' in the last few days. I know the weekends are your family time too. But I wanted to let you know that today I received a SS application for Leroy Craig Renshaw. I applied for this before I found you. This is not the Leroy I am looking for. This Leroy's parents are Moses Oliver Renshaw and Lucena Ruth Williams. Birth October 24, 1880 in Hancock Co, Illinois. Do you know a relative of Leroy Craig Renshaw? I would be happy to send the application to a Renshaw relative, if we can figure out the right one. Thanks Debbie"

I would like to access your RENSHAW web page. I am descended from Joseph & Sarah Rencher Spence. Thanks, Sandra Hultquist srhultquist@aol.com
My Renshaw's are from Nottinghamshire. I know the following: According to the birth registration of my Great Grandmother, Miriam Elizabeth RENSHAW, her father was Henry RENSHAW, a tailor who lived on Chapel Street, New Basford, Nottinghamshire at the time of Miriam's birth in September 1872. Based on the 1881 British census, at which time they lived at 44 Upper El Grove St, Plumstead, Kent, Henry would have been born about 1842. I believe he was born in Warsop, Nottinghamshire. Henry married Sarah Ann Mimmack, b May 28, 1842, in the third quarter 1869 in a double wedding with her sister Catherine. Henry and Sarah Ann had four children, Sarah Ann, Samuel b. 1871, Miriam, and Gertrude. I have been able to trace Sarah Ann's family back several more generations, but I haven't been able to get any more information on Henry. Also, I have no idea what happened to Miriam's siblings, either. Does anyone have any information that might link to my Henry RENSHAW? Thanks, Ted Rozmaryn Anderson, CA
Hi Folks, Yesterday I posted two branches of my own Renshaw line ( Wallace & Charles), although they are not my direct relatives they are apart of my line. I received two hits which I am almost certain are connections to my line. The first folks I have found in Eight years who are researching the same lines. Both ladies contacted me privately which is okay, but doesn't allow anyone else on the list to also see the answer and possible link to their lines. So I am choosing to post the following items to the list as someone else out there could see a connection. These articles were from local newspapers in Chester county, PA They nicely link all of these folks together.
