    1. [RENSHAW-L] NARA Rate Increases

    2. Tina Ellis
    3. Hi everyone, I was surfing tonight and noticed that Rootsweb has added a few more to the list of RENSHAW men that were registered for the WWI Draft. I'm unable to identify any of them as family of mine, and thought some of you may like to identify them. I did this on another list using the SSDI that is online, and two people identified the same person...they found themselves to be cousins. If you know any of these, please identify them as yours and how you are related to them. Please send your replies to the list. Have fun. 1. [RENSHAW-L] Tetrick Papers
    2. W. Guy Tetrick compiled several census indexes for various counties in West Virginia. He collected and compiled a set of family records for inhabitants of Harrison Co., WV and their descendants as well. There iare also a large number of incomplete family records for people with some relationship to an inhabitant of Harrison Co. WV which were collected by Mr. Tetrick. All the above have been microfilmed for the Family History Library. Our List Administrator, Gwen, sent me some photocopies of Renshaw records for one of my distant cousins. The information was found in the incomplete papers, which are arranged in repeating alphabetical sequence on a series of microfilm. These records were found under "B" because the person who grouped this particular set of family papers decided that Brooks was a more important name than Renshaw in the grouping. There are many family names under each group heading, and so far as I know, there is no index. The incomplete Tetrick Papers are rather frustrating to read, although they would be a marvelous resource for anyone who can take the time to read through all 49 rolls of film. The film starts with FHL number 163,848. The completed compiled records also have a Renshaw entry, which is easy to find on FHL microfilm 163811. It reads as follows: Head of faimly: James Renshaw son of John and Margaret E. (Brooks) Renshaw was born 11/9/1831 at or in Fayette County, Pa died 11/20/1924 in Harrison County, W Va buried at Clarksburg W Va IOOF Cemetery Resided Clarksburg, W Va He married Elizabeth Jane McMillan on 1/16/1870 at or in Doddridge Co. Either date is possible from the data.

    1. [RENSHAW-L] Reanshaw
    2. I made a typo today on an Ancestry.com search and spelled the name "Reanshaw". There was one entry for that spelling -- Sarah Reanshaw on the 1860 census for Cornwall, Orange Co.. NY. There were also some individuals indexed as Rainshaw: John Rainshaw was in Cooper Co., MO in 1840 Henry Rainshaw was in Kensington Ward 3, Philadelphia Co., PA in 1850 There is a book entitled "Ramshaw/Ransha/Rainshaw family of Warwick County, Virginia, with Hoggard & Thurmer connections / compiled by Alice Granbery Walter" Since I don't want to copy everything on the Ancestry site, I'll just note that there are some other misc. references to Rainshaws on Ancestry.com Eleanor

    3. Muster Rolls of the Virginia Volunteers 1917-1920 The Virginia Volunteers for the period 1917-1920 were the state's solution to being left without a National Guard during World War I. These men voluntarily joined the Virginia Volunteers organization for service within the state at the call of the governor. When World War I was over, and the National Guard resumed its pre-war position as Virginia's militia, the Virginia Volunteers were disbaned. I found a site that has the men who volunteered for the National Guard in Virginia during World War I: http://www.ls.net/~newriver/va/vavolww1.htm#tpg I believe I may have found 4 of my relatives. Three are RENSHAWs: Renshaw, A. Renshaw, S. T. Renshaw, W. J. Lufsey, J. H. It's my belief that S. T. RENSHAW may be Silas Treadway RENSHAW. W. J. RENSHAW may be William James RENSHAW, Jr. They would both be my granduncles. I have no idea who this A. RENSHAW is. I do have a cousin named Albert RENSHAW, but he would have been too young to be in the military since he was born in 1916, and is the son of William James RENSHAW, Jr. Father of Silas Treadway RENSHAW and William James RENSHAW, Jr. was William James RENSHAW, Sr. The other possible relative listed is J. H. LUFSEY. This could be my grandfather James Howard LUFSEY. He married Martha Louise "Mattie" RENSHAW in Petersburg on June 7, 1911...one day after his 15th birthday. He was 19 years old. I'll be trying to obtain records on these men. Tina Ellis

    1. [RENSHAW-L] Jean Renshaw
    2. "Mrs. Jean Douglas Renshaw died at Monrovia, California on June 28, 1924. Mrs. Renshaw was quite well known in Earlham, where they resided for some time after her marriage to Mr. Renshaw in 1910. A severe accident undermined the health of both, Mr. Renshaw passing away in 1921. She remained in Earlham for some time, finally going to California in hopes of benefiting her health. She is survived by a niece, Mrs. F. E. Errington of Portland, Oregon, and one brother living at Fort Wayne, Indiana. At her request, burial was made in Hollywood Cemetery, Los Angeles, California." The "Winterset Madisonian," newspaper, July 24, 1924. [Note from Eleanor: I believe that Jean Renshaw was the third wife of Sylvester Renshaw. They were married on 2 June 1910, and Sylvester died on 5 June 1921. I think Jean or Jennie was the daugher of Alexander McDaniel and Isabelle McFee, so I am not sure where the name Douglas came from; perhaps it was her middle name rather than her maiden name, or perhaps she was married first to a man whose surname was Douglas?]

Renshaw, Infant, stillborn, buried 15 Sep 1925, infant of W.J. Renshaw, Infant, stillborn, buried 2 Nov 1921, infant of W.J. Renshaw, Plot #WX-03-04 (This would be a child of William James RENSHAW, Sr. or possibly William James RENSHAW, Jr., but I thought Jr. lived in Petersburg, VA.) Rinshaw, not given, age 7 months, died 17 Feb 1918, buried 18 Feb 1918, Plot # not given (I have no idea who this may be.)
