    1. [RENSHAW-L] Old Photo of George Renshaw
    2. mylhasa
    3. Hi Everyone, Back in February I responded to a missing links ad telling about a Photo of George Renshaw- from Iowa. I have the photo I am sure he is not my line. But would be happy to send a copy of it to anyone who so desires: I am posting the original ad as there may be clues as to his relatives in this add. Just came across in the archives. Hope he belongs to one of you. Gwen "o In late January 2000, I found several pictures together in a tray in a local Tucson antique mall. Three are pictures of various members of the MCINTIRE family -- Clifford, Phoebe, Elna and Roberta. I believe these are from Iowa. Three relate to the BROWER family -- Uncle Homer Brower, Mt. Pleasant Iowa; Homer's parents, Burlington, Iowa; and Grandma and Bill Brower, Burlington, Iowa. One is of Uncle George RENSHAW, Burlington, Iowa. A couple are not unidentified but may have come from the same source, since they are the only pictures in this vendor's stand. The cost ranges from $1-$4 each. If they are yours, e-mail me and I will see about purchasing them for you.

    2. david yarros
    3. This story has come down from my Renshaw family ancestors...not sure if it could be true...can anyone help or suggest a way to verify or disprove it? It is said that my GG Grandfather, Arthur James Renshaw, b. Abt 1864 in yorkshire, England had worked on either making or repairing the queens throne in England. I know that he was a carpenter, but I can't prove or disprove this story...would love to know more... anyone help?? 1. [RENSHAW-L] First Names
    2. A few months ago several of us shared ideas about spelling variants for Renshaw. I think we might want to consider first name spellings also. I realize that sometimes when we join a new online site or find a freebie site, we just search for "Renshaw" and any first name. I am looking for a specific Renshaw, however, and often I type in James as the first name. Last night it occurred to me that I should be looking for Jas Renshaw and J. Renshaw also, and probably Jos Renshaw as well, since indexers sometimes confuse Jas and Jos. So, let's not forget Wm and Geo and Thos and Jno, as well as initials, when you want to or have to specify a Christian name for a search. Eleanor

    3. Hi Everyone, This was posted today on the Berks county list. I thought some of you might find it useful. Perhaps some of you are aware of this site: I wasn't so thought there might be others that also were not aware of it. To those who are aware I apologize for cluttering your email. I also suggest you follow her advise when requesting a look up. Gwen Here is the post: Hi List- With the number of emails I received this AM about lookups for Berks County Wills, I thought I would let everyone know about the site that does lookups for most of the FTM CDs. PLEASE follow the posted rules and use the FTM Index lookup to make sure that your person you are looking for shows up on the CD BEFORE you request a lookup. It saves everyone time. http://seidata.com/~genealogy/cdlist.html I volunteer at this site with the one and only CD I have and have had a great number of luck with lookup requests. Happy hunting. Regards, Liz

They are listed on my Polish website on our Volunteers page: http://maxpages.com/poland/volunteers The CDs are listed after the Books showing our volunteers that will do lookups. Don't think that you have to have Polish ancestors or family to ask our Volunteers to do lookups for you. It's open to everyone. We are glad to help. If you have a genealogy program, please let the people know if you would like a GEDCOM of the file where there is "definite" family connection. This is the site to use to check to see if any of your relatives are listed on any of the FTM CDs: http://www.familytreemaker.com/cdhome.html At 09:06 PM 07/08/2000 -0700, you wrote: >Hi Everyone, > >This was posted today on the Berks county list. 1. [RENSHAW-L] Renshaw's from Lancashire Manchester and Queenborough Kent
    2. ROSSLYN HAMILTON
    3. I am seeking information on my G. G. Grandfather: John Charles Renshaw who was born in Queensborough, Kent, England and his wife Sarah Renshaw, nee Denton from Bolton, Lancashire, England . John's, Father's name and his Father's Occupation as listed on John's Death Certificate in 1925 in Victoria is: William Renshaw, Occupation - Soldier; John's Mother's name: Caroline Renshaw -(Maiden name unknown). John's Charles, Occupation at the time of his death as listed on his Death Certificate is Engineer. If John's Father was a Soldier I am not sure for which War -"Crimean"??? William was probably a Soldier at some time earlier in his life, as he was noted as a Labourer on the 1881 census of England whilst he was living with John Charles, his son, and John's wife Sarah, in Manchester John and Sarah were obviously married in England before they Immigrated to Australia and had been living at 101 Teignmouth Street, Manchester, Lancashire at the time of the 1881 Census, along with John's Father, William Renshaw age 59, Labourer, (DOB approx 1822) who was born in Manchester, Lancashire England and John and Sarah's son Peter Renshaw, Age 4 who was born in Bolton Lancashire. John is listed as age 31, Mechanic and Sarah age 25, on the 1881 Census in England. John and Sarah Renshaw Immigrated to Australia some time in the early 1880's first to Queensland ( Cooktown) with at least one child, Peter DOB: 1877, England; They had another 4 children in Qld before moving South to Victoria, where more children were born. Their fourth child born in Qld was: Sarah Alice Renshaw DOB:1888, who married William Henry Pretty in 1908 in Victoria; they had 9/10 children, the youngest was Violet Mavis Pretty (My Mother) who married Allan Plate in 1951 and had 5 children - I am their third child. My G.G.Grandmother, Sarah Denton, was born in Bolton, Lancashire, England, in approx 1856. Her Father's name was Peter Denton, Fitter, as listed on her Death Certificate in 1923 and her Mother's name as Mary Denton nee Allen. On the 1881 Census for England their is a Peter Denton Age 61, living at 12, St John Street, Little Bolton who lists his Occupation as Machine Fitter and born in Lancashire, Prescott, England (approx 1820). However his Spouse's name is listed as Caroline Denton age 54, born in Middleton Lancashire, THEREFORE I cannot confirm that this Peter Denton on the 1881 Census is Sarah's Father, because Peter's Spouse's name, is different than the Mother's name listed on Sarah's Death Certificate. However it is possible that this Caroline is Peter's Second Wife?? Sarah married John.C. Renshaw in England and they then emmigrated to Australia in the early 1890's; (No Known details of this Marriage as yet.) But from the Date of their son Peter Renshaw, aged 4 years at the time of the 1881 Census, one could assume that they were Married some time between 1875, when Sarah would have been 19 years old and 1877 when Peter was born and Sarah would have been 21 years of age ( That is if they married before their son Peter was born in 1877) John was born in Queenborough, Kent in approx 1850, and his Father William Renshaw was born in Manchester, Lancashire in approx 1822. One of John's son's - Albert Edward is listed on John and Sarah's Grave stone at the Melbourne Cemetrey as Albert Edward Renshaw. >From Documents I researched in Australia, Albert's Militiary Number was 178 Spr - (Obviously Sapper Private) 2nd Fld Coy England who died at Galliopoli on 26th April 1915. I have details of his Memorial from the Australian War Graves Commission who has him buried at Lone Pine he was a "Sapper" which is a Mechanic of sorts who has something to do with the Big Guns. From the Date he died one can see that he was killed the day after the troops landed at Galliopoli on the 25th April 1915. My email address is C/O my husband's stephenh@carbitool.com.au or my new address rosslynhamilton@global.com.au which I have been having some difficulty with, so post to stephen's if there is a problem.

    3. I am seeking information about the family of my great grandfather, Herbert Renshaw, who came to New Zealand in 1926 from Scotland and since then there has been no contact kept with any relations in Scotland or Ireland. Although we have no documented proof, he is believed to have been born in Portadown, Armagh, Ireland in 1885. His parents are listed on his death certificate here in New Zealand as Mark and Mary Jane Renshaw. As Herbert died before his wife we are hoping that this information has been given by her and is correct. He had one sister, Bella. His parents died when he was a boy and his aunt and uncle, David and Mary (nee McMillen) Renshaw brought him up. I don't know where he was brought up and the family has no idea what happened to Bella. > David and Mary (nee McMillen) Renshaw had a family of four children; sons William (married Agnes Hunter, had a daughter called Chrissie), James (killed 25-3-1918 in France in 1st world war), David, and one daughter, Edith. This is all we know about this family. > > Herbert, my great-grandfather, ended up in Scotland. We don't know whether this was as a boy or as an adult. He married in Bothwell, Lanarkshire, Scotland in 1910 to Elizabeth Speirs Lindsay and had three children born in Scotland; David, Elizabeth and Herbert. Another baby son was born, and not long after died, when they arrived in New Zealand. Herbert served in France during the 1st world war with the Scottish Rifles and we have a photo of him taken during this time on leave with "great-aunt Mary from Canada". We have no idea where this was taken or who great-aunt Mary was. She perhaps could have been the same aunt, Mary (nee McMillen) Renshaw who brought him up as a child but unless we can make contact with any living Renshaw relations to verify this I guess we'll never know. > > Any information on this family greatly appreciated. > > Maria Hurrell > > maria.ross@xtra.co.nz
