Hello Nancy Reid, Thank you for your response to my posting regarding these two ancestors of mine. You are right about the Scots origins of the Reid families. As I told John Bettridge I have been back through some of my old papers and found some data passed on to me by a cousin some years ago not long before he died. This cousin has had some paid research carried out in Derry during the early 1990's. So it is my belief that our Reid family had been in Ireland for a good number of generations as born out by the fact that Michael Reid the grandson of Michael and Margaret married in a Catholic Chapel. I understand that after the plantation in the 1600's a slow process of took place where in some instances the two populations of Ireland melded. I wish I knew more about my Reid and Barlow families. Seeking family history in Ireland is much more difficult than it is in Scotland. Like many here in New Zealand as in other places most families have both Scots and Irish backgrounds. Our research in Scotland goes fairly well. I can not say the same for Ireland. I too wish you good luck with your research. Greg in Raumati New Zealand
