I have direct connections with the Steedman family who were around the Swanston/Colinton area of Edinburgh, Scotland in the first half of the 1800s and later in Edinburgh. A Janet A [ perhaps Anne] Steedman [ b abt 20 January 1850 daughter of Richard Trotter Steedman and Janet Reid ] married on 16 June 1876 a William McKay [ who was I believe the son of James and Margaret Gunn ] from Dornoch, Sutherland, Scotland. They had at least 3 children - James, Jessie Reid and Richard Trotter. William was a widower when he married Janet. A number of the Steedman families are to be found living in Edinburgh the 1881 census. There is also be a strong Trotter family connection somewhere because Janet and William named their son Richard Trotter after her father and the Trotter name was used in conjunction with the forename of Richard several times in the family names. Anyone else researching these families?
