    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: bettyjw41 Surnames: Reid, Anderson, Cheves Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.reid/2415.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Matthew, If you will e-mail me directly, I will send you a copy of some bible records that show Joseph Reid was the son of Thomas Reid of Iverness Scotland. That he married a woman named Anne Gordon and came to America in 1745 with thier young son Nathaniel. They settled in Augusta Co., Va and on Dec 14, 1745 had another son, William Reid. Nathaniel and William were their only two children. William married Jane Anderson on May 10, 1765 in Augusta Co., VA. Nathaniel married Elizabeth Clayton on Apr. 5, 1760, in Augusta Co., Va. William moved to South Carolina about 1780. William and Jane had the following children, the first 5 of whom were mentioned in the bible record: John A., Sarah, Jane; William R. Jr.; Thomas; Joseph; Isaac; and Mary. All of these 8 children were mentioned in his will. I have marriages for 4 of the 8 children: John A., Sarah; William R., and Thomas. I don't have any further info on Jane, Joseph, Isaac nor Mary. I believe in one of your posts you showed you descend from Thomas, who married Judith Briant/Bryant. I can give you a link to get to a book written by a descendant of Thomas and Judith. You may find info there that you don't already have. The book was written by a Larry Reid and he says that anyone can use his book as long as they don't do it for profit. I also believe that there has been a book written about Nathaniel Reid as well, by some of his descendants. I think he also went to SC as well and some of the Reids went to NC as well. My particular Reid line is John A. Reid, who married an Indian woman name Margaret Cheves (aka Lige Lourece Cheves). John and his family moved from South Carolina to southwest Louisiana in the early part of the 1800s. I don't know if it is true or not, but I have seen somewhere where John Reid was married before he married Margaret, but I have no knowledge of that. Just something that I saw on the web. John A. Reid and Margaret are buried in the Briar Patch Cemetery in Tangipahoa Parish, La. John lived to be about 110 years old. He was born 13 March 1766 and died 21 Aug. 1878. I believe Larry Reid's line also came down to southeastern Louisiana in the 1850s before moving on to Texas. He has that all in his book. As I said, e-mail me direct and I will send you the link and the copies of the bible pages. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
