I thought someone might be interested in this. She is/was my 4th great grandmother. The Will of Mary (Polly) Woods Reid, written 17 Oct 1828, probated 2 Feb 1829 in Madison Co., KY. Recorded in Will Book D, page 509. Mary was the widow of John Reid who died in Madison Co., KY on 29 Jun 1816. In the name of God amen. I, Polly Reid, widow and relict of John Reid, deceased, being weak in body but sound in mind, do make and ordain this as my last will and testament hereby revoking all others. First, my will and desire is that after my death my just debts, if any, and funeral expenses be first paid out of the proceeds of my estate, consisting of the profits of my dowry in the land and slaves of my said husband, John Reid, deceased. Second, my will and desire is that as my beloved son, Thomas Reid, by one misfortune or other has been reduced almost to penury and want, that he the said Thomas, have the balance of my estate after paying as above, which estate consists in notes principally upon my son, James Reid, for the hire of my negroes and land, some of which are now in my possession, and one in the possession of my son, John Reid, in fine , I will and bequeath unto my said son, Thomas Reid, all the estate of which I am seized and possessed, or entitled to as profits of my dowry estate, or otherwise absolutely entitled to in my own right, reserving my original dowry estate to be disposed of as the law directs. It being only my wish to will and bequeath such parts of the profits of said estate, as may be left at my death, after paying for my support and maintenance out of the same, and such other estate as I may be entitled to in my own right. Lastly, I appoint my said son Thomas Reid, executor to this my last will and testament. In witness whereof , I have hereunto set my hand and seal, this 17th day of October, 1828. Signed.
