I grew up in New Jersey, USA, but now live permanently in Australia. I am descended from a REID family of Udny, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. He married Jane/Jean CUMMING 8 June 1849 in Old Machar (Woodside), Aberdeenshire, Scotland, daughter of William CUMMING and Elspet McHARDY. Jane was christianed 31 March 1819 in Corgarff, Strathdon, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, and she died 1891 in Woodside, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Children of John REID and Jane/Jean CUMMING are: i. John Cummins REID, b. 12 March 1853, Newhills, Aberdeenshire, Scotland; d. 21 May 1901, Lambertville, Hunterdon Co., New Jersey, USA. iii. Jane REID, b. 9 June 1855, Newhills, Aberdeen, Scotland; d. Aft. 1861. 3. iv. Isabel REID, b. 4 October 1858, Old Machar (Woodside), Aberdeen, Scotland; d. 23 January 1896 in New Jersey, USA. Generation No. 2 3. John Cummins REID (son of John) was born 12 March 1853 in Newhills, Aberdeen, Scotland, and died 21 May 1901 in Lambertville, Hunterdon Co., New Jersey, USA. He married Catherine B. DAVIDSON 7 July 1876 at 53 Barron Street, Old Machar, Aberdeen, Scotland, daughter of James DAVIDSON and Charlotte DAVIDSON (Charlotte's maiden name was actually Davidson). Children of John REID and Catherine DAVIDSON are: 5. i. John Leslie REID, b. 18 April 1877, 147 Barron Street, Old Machar, Aberdeen, Scotland; d. 1940. 6. ii. Gordon Davidson REID, b. 8 December 1880, 147 Barron Street, Old Machar, Aberdeen, Scotland; d. 29 March 1951, Elizabeth General Hospital, Elizabeth, New Jersey, USA. iii. Williamina Birn___ REID, b. 1878, 147 Barron Street, Old Machar, Aberdeen, Scotland; d. 1881, Old Machar, Aberdeen, Scotland. 7. iv. William D. REID, b. 6 April 1884, place unknown; d. 18 October 1908, St. Peter's Hospital, New Brunswick, New Jersey, USA. v. Charles D. REID, b. 2 May 1887, Dell Rapids, South Dakota, USA; d. 11 March 1896, Lambertville, Hunterdon Co., New Jersey, USA. vi. Mabel REID, b. Dell Rapids, South Dakota, USA; m. RUSSELL SLACK. 8. vii. REID, b. 16 February 1895, Dell Rapids, South Dakota, USA; d. 25 April 1896, Lambertville, Hunterdon Co., New Jersey, USA. 3.iv. Isabel REID (dau of John) was born 4 October 1858 in Old Machar, Aberdeen, Scotland, and died 23 January 1896. She married Alexander PETRIE 1883 in Old Machar, Aberdeen, Scotland. Child of Isabel REID and Alexander PETRIE is: i. Annie PETRIE, b. March 1885, Scotland; m. I am the great-granddaughter of Gordon Davidson REID. I have been in contact with other people who also descend from REID families in Aberdeenshire, but have found no connections so far.
