    3. I was asked to post this will to the list for some who have not seen it. Copy of John Reid's will is as follows from Bob Reid ([email protected]) Will of John Reid, made 9 Nov 1816 (on file at the North Carolina Department of Archives and History, Raleigh, NC) "In the name of God, Amen. I, John Reid, of Iredell County and State of North Carolina, being frail and low in state of body, but of sound mind and memory and calling to mind the mortality of the body and knowing that it is appointed for all men to die do make, pronounce and declare this my last will and testament in the following manner and form: Item: I give and bequeath to my loving wife Mary Reid all my estate, both real and personal during her natural lifetime or widowhood. Item: I give and bequeath to my son James all my tract of land where I now live, my wagons and two beds, and furniture. Also my farming utensils, my sorrel mare, two cows, his own share of the hogs and a third of the sheep. Also my Negroes Rachel, Harry, Abner, Jefferson and Madison, and all the increase of the above mentioned Negroes, all which property my son James is to be in full possession of at his mother's death. Item: I will and bequeath to my daughter Mary Beggarly my Negro wench Sally. Item: I give and bequeath to my son David Reid 225 acres of land lying on Elk River in the state of Tennessee. Also I will my Negro boy Miles to my son David. Item: I allow my three Negroes namely Dine, Amos and Nelson to be equally divided between my six children, viz., John, Alexander, Samuel, David, George Reid, and Margaret Dobbins. I allow the remainder of my property both real and personal to be sold and all my just debts to be paid and funeral expenses and the remainder to be equally divided between my children, viz., John, Alexander, Samuel, David, George and James Reid, Margaret Dobbins and Mary Beggarly. Item: I ordain, constitute and appoint David Reid and James Reid, my sons, executors of my last will and testament thusly disavowing all other former wills, deeds, and testaments heretofore made or done and ratify and confirm this and not other to be my last will and testament in testimony whereof, I have hereto put my hand and affixed my seal this the ninth day of November in the year of our Lord, 1816.
