My family was DODD and we have been unable to find the mothers maiden name. The father was jonathan DODD and hers is Loucendia (?) unknown. TWO of the sons of this old man jonathan dodd married women of the CAVE family of Barnwell SC-alabama and mississippi. Jonathan born 1784. If you will go into clark co, alabama? you will find a marriage of a loucendia cave Read (Reed-Reid). This woman had a sister, Louisa cave who married a man named anthony rabon and the loucendia cave (the twin sister to louisa) married the john Reid in clark co.alabama around 1830 ish. the two dates are the same date. Now if you are following me thus far---we have a sister cave rabon and a sister cave reid and a mother in law loucendia (unknown maiden name)? Here is where the legend enters: These core DODD/CAVE/RABON/Reed-Reid-Reade) families were in Clark co. alabama, washington co. alabama and Choctawco. alabama in the 1840-50 and 60 census. Some McDOWELL families of the same area say that the mother in law-loucendia DODD was actually a loucendia MARTIN who married a McDOWELL man??? and raised her children as DODD men and they may or may not have gone back to MdDowell after 1860? As the DODD, William, Henry and Isaac names are also common to the MCDOWELL william, henry and Isaac. There are MCDowell families living with, around and near, Reid people , in clark co.alabama. The 1850-1860 census are on line--but be aware they do NOT show these "live in "family members on the transcriptions. YOU will have to go to the Digital images or the microfilm to find the exact names, dates and places. My names don't match your names--however, how many times can you find a MCDowell name mentioned with a REID? I try to track these leads and have been unable to locate anything past the clark co. 1860 census AND the marriages. MY DODD cave families went to texas before 1860. But we are sure that the cave/reid marriage is the twin sister to my gg granny lucy ann (louisa) cave rabon dodd autry. I am told there are McDowell graves in Bladon Springs Alabama. Lots of McDowell people in that area. I wish you good luck. judy hugg grimes
