Once the Reads/Reids/Reeds moved to America,Canada and the rest of the world the name origins changed. "Back in the day", the spelling of your last name was usually spelled by someone else. The majority of the people couldn't read or write. Take the census as an example. My Reid family is English and I have found my grandfathers name spelled Reed, Read and Reid. This does create more mysteries for us as other Reid family members may have differently spelled last names. There are also Irish Reeds.
