Have you come across a Garbutt surname in any of your research? I have a George Garbutt Reid and can only imagine as I have seen on my Lancaster research that Garbutt would have possibly been the maiden surname of either his mother or one of his grandmother's. Unforutnately I've not had any luck with my Reid's. George Garbutt Reid had a son in Mauritius in 1877, he was Marcus Alexander Reid and George's wife was Marie - haven't been able to find her maiden surname.
