Hello all. Thanks to those who responded off List. I am very pleased to have received your emails. They are all very interesting and encouraging. I thought that I should share my basic reply about my family with the List just in case the names ring a bell somewhere. Here goes. As far as I know this is a Catholic family. Michael Reid married Margaret Barlow somewhere in Derry(?) before 1819. I know of only one child, Bernard who was born in that year. Bernard married Mary (O)Rielly some time between 1838 and 1846. Our information is conflicting and no parish or civil record has been found. Bernard and Mary had seven children that we know of. I have a suspicion there could be at least one other child that we do not know about who was born before Michael in 1847. Michael is my g.grandfather. Bernard, Mary and the seven children along with nine grandchildren migrated to New Zealand on three ships in 1874 and 1875. The other children are Patrick Robert b. 1848, Mary-Jane b. 1850, Margaret b. 1852, John Bernard b.1852, Ellen Alice b. 1854, and Hugh b.1856. Margaret and John were twins. The family settled in the far south of the South Island where many of their descendants still live. (Not me). I have a record of 1600 descendants of Michael and Margaret and I am finding more all the time. They certainly were a prolific lot in the early days her in this country. My g.grandfather Michael married Agnes Louise Barlow, 20 Oct 1866, at Mullahinch Parish, Aghadowey, Coleraine, Derry. It is not known if Agnes and Margaret were related. The father of Agnes is Richard, and he was a minor land owner at Aghadowey. His wife's name is not known. Bernard's in-laws were Michael (O)Rielly and Catherine Hogan.
