My starting point is Jesse Reid, who states on his 1845 Sheffield marriage certificate that he was born in Marylebone and his father was William, a labourer. Jesse must have had some sort of education as he signed the certificate when he married Mary Leatherbarrow, of Sheffield. At the time of the marriage, Jesse was 26 making him born c1819/20 and Mary was 18 so born c1827. At the time, Jesse was a cutler by trade. I have found a Jesse Reid in Sheffield on the 1841 census, but nothing to link him for definite with either Marylebone or my tree. Jesse and Mary had a son, also called Jesse who went on to marry an Elizabeth Nicholson in Sheffield.
