The info came to me from a Mr. Art Reid and he got the info from Larry Reid, who wrote a book on his ancestors - The Reid family and allied families (that is not exactly the name of the book, but that was what the book was about). It seems that one Thomas Reid, born and died in Iverness Scotland, had a son Joseph Reid, born probably around 1710 or 1715 (no dob was given, so just guessing using his marriage date as a basis). Joseph Reid married Anne Gordon June 23, 1734, at his father's home in Iverness, Scotland. Joseph Reid and his father were politically inclined I guess, because they came down on the side of the Stuart Princes of Scotland, so after the Jacobite Revolution in 1745, Joseph and his family were exiled to the American colonies. Joseph and Ann and thier young son Nathaniel (4 Oct., 1735) settled in Augusta Co., VA. Shortly after arriving in Virginia, ! thier youngest son William was born (14 Dec. 1745). There is some more info in the book regarding Joseph, Nathaniel and William, but I have not had time to digest all of the info yet. As far as I could tell, Nathaniel stayed in Virginia, but his brother William and his wife Jane Anderson moved to South Carolina, near Spartanburg. William and Jane Anderson had the following children: John A. Reid (23 Mar 1766); Sarah Reid(23 Jan 1767); Jane Reid (25 Oct 1767); William R. Reid Jr. (12 Aug 1768); Thomas (01 Aug 1770); Joseph Reid ( ca 1772); Isaac Reid (ca 1774) and Mary (ca 1778). Larry Reid's line came down thru Thomas Reid and his wife Judith Bryant and that is the line he wrote about. The line I am researching is the oldest child John A. Reid, who married an Indian woman named Margaret Cheves and later moved to Southeast Louisiana and settled in St. Tammany and Tangipahoa Parishes, La. I have a little bit of info on William R. Reid Jr., such as who he married and names of his children, but not much else.. Sarah Reid married John George and I have nothing else on the rest of the children. The first 5 children were recorded in Joseph and Anne Gordon Reid's bible, and all of them were mentioned in William Reid's will. According to Larry Reid, both Joseph Reid and his son William fought in the Revolutionary War. I don't exactly remember specific info about Nathaniel, but I think I read where a couple of his descendants wrote a book about him as well. If you can e-mail me directly, I will be happy to give you the address where you can access Larry Reid's book. I think he said it was OK for people to use his info, as long as they did not exploit it for profit.
