"Chess" and a son named Vester M. Both are buried in White Plains, Calhoun, but i do not know if it's where they died. Any children they had are as yet undiscovered by me as none of the other descendants have been in touch. One of my greater uncles was Robert V., but i do not know if it was Vester. Only my great grandfather William lived in Cullman County and he left nothing or nobody behind, moving on. None of any family lived in Jefferson County, except mayhaps Joseph B. and kids after 1920 in Rabbit Town, 'cause that's the last i saw of the rascals. Obviously, I'm trying to do too much at one time. I just got back from a trip and am trying to play catch up. It dawned on me that Arthur J. Reid must have been the one you mentioned who died in 1973. I'm doing this research for my sister-in-law, and she told me that Arthur sent all his daughters to college at Portola, and his daughters were born between 1914 and 1924. So of course he couldn't have sent them to college if he died in 1929. He was a school teacher and at least one of his daughters was, also. Appreciate all your help. You said Arthur J. Reid died in Curry Co. NM 30 Dec. 1973. I have down that he died Oct. 4 or 5, 1929. I'm basing that on a list of obits on the Curry County website. I haven't yet ordered the obit, I've been out of town. I'm not sure now which is the right death date. Arthur and Minnie had a son named Joe A. Reid born abt 1918. It's possible the death date of 1973 was his. I'll have to look more into that. Peggy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My Reid family stretches back to Kirkmichael in Perthshire in 1734 when Donald Reid and Ann Farquharson had a child baptised named John. They also had children by the name of Agnes and David in Bendochy parish before moving back to Kirkmichael by 1740 where they produced Janet and later Alexander. Can anyone trace their own family tree back to any of the above? Willie Reid

None of my family came from or lived in Ireland and therefore I have no experience in doing research related to Ireland. (I believe Irish research is more difficult than scottish research also) Since you don't even have a county for the marriage of Anna Reid and few records after 1900, all I can suggest is that you search the censuses for 1861, 71, 81 for John and Anna. But without a county, Jees, good luck - Ontario is huge.... Perhaps someone with Irish research experience might be able to help out here... Sorry, Bob F.

Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.reid/1745.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Asa was the son of George Reid II, and Jane Gaston. We have looked for any kind of document that would serve as proof of this. But, as George Reid did not have an estate probated, and Asa did not have a family Bible to survive the years, we know of no primary documentary proof that he is one and the same as the Asa Reid born to George Reid and Jane Gaston. However, fortunately, we do have the Bible record of Henry Reid which gives his birth date. A very important secondary proof that Asa is the son of George and Jane exists in the written memorandum of Asa's own niece, Lucinda Oregon Hamilton McPhearson. She was the daughter of Asa's sister, Margaret. This memorandum was dictated to her son, Lewis D. McPherson in December, 1908, and later confirmed in affidavits by other Reid descendants. In this memorandum, Lucinda gave a list of the siblings of her mother and stated that Asa and the others were the children of George Reid and Jane Gaston. She missed his birth year s! lightly stating that he was born in 1801. (with a ? after the date) She was correct in her statement also, that he went to Arkansas, though she thought it was near Hot Springs. Too, it must be more than coincidental that virtually every book published on the Reid, Gaston or Simonton families mention that Asa, son of George Reid and Jane Gaston "went to Arkansas". Additionally, we have been able to place every other Reid by the name of Asa with their correct families."
