I am looking for the parents of Phebe Reed b feb 10, 1820 (I'm not sure where she was b). She was married to Thomas D Ginnings/Jennings Mar 29 1843 in Marshall Co TN. And died 1889 in Greene Co MO. I have found several Phebe's in Marshall, but none anywhere close to the b year I am looking for. Did William have a daughter Phebe that matches my Phebe. I didn't even know where to start looking in Alabama for Arthur. Felix is on the New Mexico census with Arthur, so I was sure they were brothers. Felix's wife is Mollie A. age 27, and their children on the 1910 census were Stella (F.?)age 6, Esta M. age 2 and Vesta (D.?)age 2. Mollie was born in TN, Stella in AL, and the twins were born in OK. Author: reidw Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.reid/1085.1102.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Shirley -- I just sent a reply to a later post of yours asking for more info. Then I found this one. As you have discovered, there are a great many Reids (and quite a few "Reeds") in Alabama. Many came there from Georgia in the early 1800s. I have no idea how they may or may not be interrelated back in the 1700s and before, but there are several lines that appear separate as of about 1840. My (Caucasian, so far as I know) line is the offspring of John (probably) and Mary Reid (I don't know her maiden name), several of whom came to Tallapoosa Co., AL., during the 1840s. Those Reid/Reed siblings, whose birthdates range from about 1810 to 1834 and were probably born in Georgia, had first names (mostly very common, unfortunately) like Jesse Taylor, Philip, John, William H., Abner L., James, George W., Eliza, Cornet/Cortney, Mary, and Andrew. At least two of those siblings (Jesse T. and James) moved to Texas, Jesse during the late 1860s (my line). Mary Ann Reid married a RAY. I have a lot of information about that Alabama Ray family, and a good contact with a member of that line who lives in Birmingham, AL. It is certainly possible that one of those families had an Ernest and a Chester a generation or two later; however, I don't recall running across those first names in my work. I hope this is helpful. If I can supply more information, drop me an email at reidw(at)reidpsychiatry.com. Bill Reid Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: reidw Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.reid/1085.1102.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: John -- Just found your Jan. 23, 2007, post in a thread I've used in the past. We may have corresponded before. I knew an Asa "Ace" Reid, a prominent cartoonist, who died in Kerrville, TX several years ago. The Asa Reid line you are researching is almost certainly his (it comes up a lot). Ace and I never found a link with my own Reid line, but I suspect one exists prior to 1830. You mention a Benj. HUGHES. I am a cauc. Reid whose GGGF Jesse Taylor Reid (b ~1830 probably Coweta Co, GA) married Ellender Magdalene Hughes (b. 1833, in GA) in Talapoosa Co., Alabama. Ellender's father, Benajah (Benager, Buck) Hughes was b. in SC about 1790 or 1800. Her mother was possibly Cowan. Ellender had at least two sisters, Matilda and Amanda. Benajah's father was Benjamin Hughes, b. ~1759 in SC. He married Anna Mason (b. SC I think). Benjamin's & Anna's children were Leah, Wesley, Benajah, Mary, Simeon, William, Riley, Nancy, Jacob, Chesley, and John W., all apparently born in SC between about 1790 and 1827 (mostly estimates). I am especially interested in the REID/REED line before Jesse Taylor Reid (e.g., his parents, Mary and probably John), and in Jesse's siblings' lines. ANY information about those folks (especially prior to 1830) would be appreciated. Hope this helps. I will also try to email it to you privately so we can be in touch as needed.
