I am looking for the parents of, or more information about Mary E. REID On 18 Oct 1853, she married Robert E. McINTIRE in Montgomery County, Kentucky. Mary died prior to 1880 - I found Robert in the 1880 US Census in Rowan County, KY listed as widow. I received information they had two daughters: Helen, who d. 31 July 1880; and Ellen, born about 1857 and was living with her father in 1880. Thank you. Once the Reads/Reids/Reeds moved to America,Canada and the rest of the world the name origins changed. "Back in the day", the spelling of your last name was usually spelled by someone else. The majority of the people couldn't read or write. Take the census as an example. My Reid family is English and I have found my grandfathers name spelled Reed, Read and Reid. This does create more mysteries for us as other Reid family members may have differently spelled last names. There are also Irish Reeds. That would "double connect" my Mother's and Father's families. My earliest records are of Joseph B. Reid who married Isabella Slavin born c1785 in NC. The family moved first to Kentucky then to Estill Fork in Jackson County AL. prior to 1850. The census of 1850 is the first hard record that I have. I am decended from Joseph and Isabella's son Alexander Reid who married Mary Ann Trice. I have most of the families decent from them to my grandmother's siblings, and some below that. He and Syntha died in Marion County, AL He died there after 1870. I have resorted to DNA testing to locate his ancestors. One of the near matches is from Charles Reed who lived in Jackson Co.
