Author: lesleymacneil Surnames: Reid/Keeping/ Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.reid/2225.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am Myra Keeping's grandaughter. I am looking for information regarding her as well for my mother Carole louise Ried who married Tom MacNeil (Glace Bay). Myra married Bill and had three children, William, Carole and Kenny. Carole and Tom had three children Stacey, Tommy and me, Lesley. Myra's last address, which no longer exists, was 48 Douglas street in Sydney. My mother Carole is the only surviving member. All I know is that she was born August 28,1911. She had one brother named Alvin born in Oct 1917. Myra's mother died when she was 8 but I don't know her name. I think her father is Frederick Keeping born 1868 and listed as a widow. I have a bit more information but have run out of roon. Please Please email me. My Reid, More, Junor and Patience ancestors are from around Avoch, Ross-shire, Scotland along the eastern coast of Scotland north of Inverness that is known as the "Black Isle" of the Highlands or Scotland. It has been said that the Scots in this area were not as closely linked or part of the Clan network or system or didn't celebrate the tartans and bagpipes as much as other Scots. Would you please comment on some of these statements. You and other Reids can learn more about my Reid ancestors whose descendants immigrated to Thamesford, East Nissouri Tp., Oxford Co., Ontario, Canada in the late 1840's from an earlier posting that I made to this Message Board back in 19 Nov 2003 as follows: Subject: Colin Reid and Christian Reid from Milnhill, Caithness, Scotland in the Caithness Highlands Ref. Robert, Margie (Margaret), Frank, and George were all her children and I'm guessing that Raymond was the child of one of her siblings. Unfortunately, I don't have that information and I'm even uncertain as to her maiden name although it may have been McRae which would make Raymond the son of a sister. Does anyone know who Raymond is or what his connection to the Sullivan's might be. Thanks in advance, Chris Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: jlancaster176 Surnames: Reid Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.reid/3778.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello I'm replying to your mail as this is the first time I have seen another Alexander Reid. Have you come across a Garbutt surname in any of your research? I have a George Garbutt Reid and can only imagine as I have seen on my Lancaster research that Garbutt would have possibly been the maiden surname of either his mother or one of his grandmother's. Unforutnately I've not had any luck with my Reid's. George Garbutt Reid had a son in Mauritius in 1877, he was Marcus Alexander Reid and George's wife was Marie - haven't been able to find her maiden surname. I have no idea if they were born in Mauritius themselves or migrated there from elsewhere. Kind regards Jonnette Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: felixreid Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.reid/240.759/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Debbie, Here is some info - I have more if you wish. Felix The Clan is Donnachaidh, an old Clan, one of the original four of the Kaledonoi, called that by Caeser of Rome, Kaledonoi not Donnachaidh. Donnachaidh Reamhair, or stout Duncan was the progenator of the Clan, before him we were unbanded Scots trying to survive in the highlands. He brought the Clan together so we are Clan Donnachaidh, children or property of Duncan. We served our allegiance was to this man and still is. Duncan while helping hide Robert the Bruce from the King of England was born a son by his wife. He named the child Robert. Robert the Bruce was his best friend and they were of equal strength and enjoyed hunting, fighting, drinking, and eating together back then and he was so touched by his friends jesture that he held the babe in his arms and said "From time to now you have been known as the children of Duncan, but I swear this day to protect your clan as my own children alike and ye shall be also called the sons of Robert." So Roberts children were known as ! the Robertsons of Clan Donnachaidh, but they have never been an official Clan, a clan of Robertsons true as we call our families our clan, we Duncan's are liable to say. Now the Reids who were a branch of the clan with the red hair, who were the Reids of Clan Donnachaidh are also part of your family and therefore you can wear any of the tartans in any of the colors you prefer. We have a Duncan brown, a Robertson brown, a Struan Robertson, a Red Robertson, an ancient Robertson, an Ancient Duncan, a Modern Duncan, a Hunting Robertson, a muted Hunting Robertson, a Red Reid and a Green Reed, take your pick and enjoy, hey get one of every color. I have three sashes in the different colors of Ancient and Modern Duncan and Red Robertson, I also want Brown Duncan. My son prefers the Modern Duncan in small kilt and Muted Hunting Robertson in the Great kilt. He needs a Brown and a Struan Robertson which I find exceptional. Look in your area through Scottish organizations, like St. ! Andrew Society or a Caledonian Club and get hooked up with your branch or you can join any branch you choose to support...This one is great that I'm in. So much knowledge (correct knowledge) and people who are really involved in the main branch in Scotland. A couple of them are from Pitlochery. I get lots of info and they are all truly wonderful people. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
