    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: schultz41 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.reid/1549.10.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I found the death registrations of James and Grace Reid as follows: James Reid, born about 1800 in County Down Ireland, died 27 Mar 1880 (not 1890)at West Flamborough Twp., Wentworth County. Grace Reid, born about 1809 Ireland, died 4 Jan 1898 also at West Flamborough Twp. I'm attaching copies of the actual registrations. Let me know if they don't come through and I could email them to you directly. Also, Grace is in the 1881 census of Flamborough West, Wentworth North, Ontario - living with sons Alexander and Hugh and his family. As for church records, they're not as easily found on websites. The family was Presbyterian so try googling Presbyterian church records in Wentworth County. If that doesn't work you may have to contact the United Church Archives. The Presbyterians merged into the United Church. Hope this helps! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: ycrisp52 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.reid/1549.10.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Wendy, Thank you for your reply. I actually only have a US census with Samuel A. Reid, my ggrandfather, which lists his birth in Canada May 15, 1845 and his father birth in Ireland. I came upon a message from Faye5029 on this board which appears to be researching the same relatives. She stated Alexander Reid and Jane McKee (wife) comming from County Down, Ireland to Freelton, Ontario, Canada in 1839 or earlier, she said info came from 2 distant cousins who did the research. She said Alexander and son James, which is my gggrandfather, immigrated to Freelton from Balmahinch, Ireland with wife Grace Wightman between Nov. 30, 1840 and April 1841. She said they farmed 100 acres at Lot 3, Concession 8 in township West Flamborough. They brought 6 children James, Margaret, Alexander, Grace, John and Hugh. 3 additional children born in Freelton, Samuel and William. and Mary Ann. She states Hugh was her ggrandfather. Samuel was my ggrandfather. I tried to look up information on the Ireland records and couldn't find any record of a Balmahinch, although I did find a Ballynahinch. in Wentworth County, Ireland. I have Samuel married Mary Estelle Cooley, lived and died in Minnesota, Samuel's father James Reid didn't have a birth date only a death date of 1890 in Puslinch. He had a notation of Strabane Presbyterian Church at time of death. His wife Grace Wightman, also had a death location 1898 in Freelton twnshp Ontario, Canada. I'm sorry this is so long and rambling. Is there a website with church records or other websites I might search for information? THANK YOU, Yvonne Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: schultz41 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.reid/1549.10.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: What else do you know about these men? Freelton and Puslinch are both in Wellington County. There's no 1890 death registration for a James Reid at Puslinch, or anywhere in Wellington county. Have you found Samuel or James in the 1881 census? Are they father and son? What family members would they be listed with in census records? Civil registration of births didn't start until 1869 in Ontario, so there is no birth registration for Samuel. You'll need to look for church records instead. It said the family lived on Shuttle Street. I hired a researcher in Scotland two years ago to track down Robert's parents, she could not find anything, just the marriage banns. The middle name of ANDERSON was passed down through the family in Wisconsin, either as a first name or middle name, as was the name Robert. I have looked on Origins.net and at the Family History Library films from this time period and not found anything on either Robert or Mary. This is my brick wall. Sorry I could not be more help.
