I know very little and would love any info of her or her family. What I do know, is, she was Canadian, born between 1858-1870 (more likely closer to 1858) and ended up living in California before the turn of the century. She married Willaim Betts of England, but they married in California in about 1875. They had children, William,Daisy, George. Alice Reid divorced at some point around about the turn of the century and married George E Little of OH. They lived in Sacramento in 1920 with my gret-grandma Anna Little. Probably not. He and Susannah would have been married by 1819 because their son, John Hamilton Reid, was born 1819 and David would have been 24 and susannah 19. I am told that the parents of David and William M. Reid were David Reid and Elizabeth Nance from S.C. or N.C. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: alison2kennedy Surnames: Reid; Thomson; Rae; Smith Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.reid/3856/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The following obituary is from The Aberdeen Daily Journal, dated Monday, March 12, 1917. I have no connection (as far as I know) to this family. Death of Aged Cruden Man in Aberdeen Born at Old Deer in 1817. The remarkable age of 99 years and eleven months had been attained by Mr John Reid, lately of Tillymaud, Cruden, who died at 47 Summerfield Terrace, Aberdeen, the address of Mrs Smith, his only surviving daughter, on Friday. He had been resident in the city for the past two years, after having lived continuously at Cruden for nearly 90 years. He went there from the parish of Old Deer, of which he was a native, when a child. For very many years Mr Reid was a stonedresser at the Blackhill Quarries, and when past the age for active toil, performed the duties of gardener. His hearing was affected in consequence of an accident while he was still a comparatively young man, but, with this exception, Mr Reid retained his faculties unimpaired till the last, and, possessed of intelligence above the ordinary standard, maintained an unabated interest in affairs, even on the day before death. Predeceased by his wife more than 30 years ago, he leaves as has been mentioned, one daught! er, and also a son. His family originally numbered 13, and five of the members, if now alive, would have passed the age of 73 years. Mr Reid was a great-great-grandfather. Born on April 16, 1817, during the Regency at the close of the reign of George III, he lived under six Sovereigns. His longevity was ascribed to moderate and regular habits, and to the fact that he came of a long-lived stock. Information from the death certificate reads as follows: 1917 Deaths in the District of St Nicholas in the Burgh of Aberdeen No. 201; John Reid, General Labourer, widow of Jane Thomson, died 1917, March Ninth at 1h 30m pm at 47 Summerfield Terrace, Aberdeen, male, age 99 years.
