1. Rev. Samuel Shannon Ralston
2. Russell M. Reid
3. Shannon and Reid Researchers, I have been working on the family of Rev. Samuel Shannon Ralston, who, beginning in 1843 was the first pastor to the Mt. Zion Associate Reformed Presbyterian Congregation in Lincoln Co. MO. Many of the members of the congregation were his cousins. He was born in the vicinity of Nashville, TN 11 May 1809 to James Reid Ralston and Esther Shannon. In his own autobiography he identified his mother's parents as Samuel Shannon and Jean Reid. They are easily identified respectively as the son of Thomas Shannon and wife Agnes of Lancaster Co. PA, and the daughter of John Reid and wife Jean of the same county. Rev. Ralston identified his paternal grandparents as David Ralston and Mary Reid. It is know from the 1752 will of John Reid of Lancaster Co. PA that, in addition to the daughter Jean Reid (Mrs. Samuel Shannon) he had a daughter Mary Reid. It is my suspicion, though I have never found any confirmation, that Mary Reid, the daughter of John Reid and Jean, is the same as Mary Reid, the wife of David Ralston. This would make the two grandmothers of Rev. S. S. Ralston sisters. Does anyone researching these families know of confirming or contradictory information? Russell Reid <mailto:[email protected]> or <mailto:[email protected]> Louisville, KY

1. Check out RootsWeb's WorldConnect Project
2. I found this on another family digest list and thought you all would like to know about it: Click here: RootsWeb's WorldConnect Project Look what just arrived at RootsWeb!!! New!! This is so neat! You can upload your family file to RootsWeb for free! And, boy, is it great! I just uploaded and it only took a few minutes. You have the option to include "more about" notes or not, you can include your sources or not, you can "clean" the info on your living folks---many options available. First, you need to set up an account, so you can upload your file, and later, to edit it (which I just did, also). Then, send it up! So easy and so fast. It took HOURS to send it to the Family Tree Maker site. Just minutes at RootsWeb, and it's much more complete. Also, you can add "post-ems" to anyone's data, and you can be notified when someone adds a post-em to yours, so that you can connect. This is brand new, just got started yesterday, I think. There may be a few bugs yet, but there's a message board where the fellow taking care of the GEDs is posting responses to the suggestions. And he is fast. What a great idea! Now we can all connect so much easier and FREE! Here's the URL: http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/ I can't wait to get some more databases online. Spread the word! Kathy

1. REIDs in Alaska
2. Launie Graffeo
3. Calling ALL REID's and all the septs of Clan Robertson (Donnachaidh) in the Anchorage area of Alaska! We have our very own Alaskan Scottish Club right here in Anchorage. What an honor it is to represent our heritage in a way to make our Ancestors so very proud of us. This Thursday, October 7th at 6 p.m. there will be a planning meeting which will cover, among other things, the Games 2000. We will have childcare available and also pizza. Please everyone come. If you are interested, please email me right away so that we know how much pizza to order. This is a great opportunity for all of us who are of Scottish descent to show our pride and humility (I know, contradiction) in all that we know about our families and Clan. Membership is of minimal cost and the benefits far outweigh anything monetary! This year, at the Highland Games, I noticed no one was "representing" our Clan tartans or regalia. What a shame it was to know that there were probably many of us there and none of us could identify each other as who we are. My son and I would like to have a booth next year for our clan and would love to have your help. Thanks for listening everyone. Hope to hear from you today! Launie Reid Graffeo

2. Mary Jo C. Martin
3. Dear Reid listers: I have just found out some more information from the 1861 British census regarding one of my Aberdeen, Scotland families. Specifically, I now know the parents' ages and POBs (REID family of Udny and Newhills / CUMMING family of Strathdon and Old Machar) and the names of two more of their children. I'd like to re-post this family to the list (below my signature) in the hopes of attracting descendants of the new children, or anyone who can tell me about other REID families from these localities. Cheers! Mary Jo C. Martin Melbourne, Australia JOHN S. OR L. REID was born Abt. 1820 in Udny, Aberdeen, Scotland. He married JANE "Jean" CUMMING 8 June 1849 in Old Machar, Aberdeen, Scotland, daughter of JOHN CUMMING and ELIZABETH DEANS. 1. George Washington Reed of GA
2. pchilders
3. My George Washington Reed was born in Merriwether County Ga in 1837. He also lived in Franklin County Ga. He had at least the following three children: John William, Callie, and Emmy. There may have been more I don't know for sure. John William and Callie both died in SC. John William was married to Alice Roach and their children were Dewey Henry, Leonard, Ossie Belle, John Henry, and Guy William. Three died in SC, 1 in Alabama, and one probably in Ca. My George was married to a Mary and she remarried a Vaughn after George died. George was wounded at the Battle of Richmond. It shortened his leg by 5 to 6 inches and years after it was still "leaking". He was a very short man. Let me know if we can connect. Pat

1. William Reed, UE
2. arnold weirmeir
3. Hi I am trying to gather information about William Reed who came to Canada from the USA about 1780 and claimed Loyalist status. His origin in the USA is unknown but is believed to be from the banks of the Delaware River. He is believed to have been a Sergeant in a Loyalist regiment but the regiment is unknown. He may be a descendant of John Read who settled in Providence in 1660 where he married a widow of Francis Derby. Children of John1 Read were: John2 b. 1697, Thomas2, William2, Mary and Abigail. Generation 2: The children of John2 were: John3, Daniel3, Eleazor3, Samuel3, William3, Mary3, Experience3, Mehetabel3 Generation 3: Eleazor3 had children: Moses4 and Eleazor4. Moses4 came to Canada as a Loyalist in 1784. It is possible that my William was a cousin of Moses and was a son of one of Eleazor3's brothers. Any ideas of suggestions would be welcome.
