Hello REID researchers, I would like to compare notes with other REID researchers who might have information on Absalom Reid, b. 1786 who can be found on the Conecuh Co. AL census and tax records as early as 1818. He was married to Louisa, b. 1800 S.C. Their children, all born in AL were Squire, Amos b. 1828, Elly b. 1832, Susan b. 1835 and Abraham b. 1842. They moved to Jasper Co. MS after 1840 and Absalom died there in 1846. I would also like to connect to anyone researching Amos I. Reid of Washington Co. MS Territory in early 1800s, and Stephen A. Reid of Jasper Co. MS in 1840-1850s. Any informtion will be appreciated. Thanks, Janice

Start by locating a marriage certificate for James and Lillian. This will give the names and occupations of both of their fathers. You will be able to consult the indexes of Irish marriages at your local Mormon Family History Centre (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints). If they do not have the relevant microfilm in stock, they can order it in. When you locate the entry in the index you can obtain a copy of the certificate from the General Register Office in Dublin. If they were married in a Roman Catholic Church the register almost certainly survives and may well include the names of their mothers. You will be able to obtain this information by writing to the parish priest as soon as you know the place of the marriage. Also, you can consult the Irish births index at the Family History Centre and you may be able to locate a birth record for James circa 1870. However you cannot be certain that this will be the correct record without the information from the marriage certificate. After all of that, you may find that you are related to me! My great grandmother was Annie Reid born in Dublin in 1857. Her mother was Jane Stephens and there were several Joseph Stephens in that family. So the fact that your grandfather was called Joseph Stephen might be relevant. Please let me know how you get on. You should also be able to obtain James Christopher Reid's military record from the British archives. Regards Niall Foley Dublin, Ireland.

A while back I ordered some pension records of a Jesse REED hoping he was an ancestor of mine, but no such luck. The Civil War papers are for a Jesse REED of Effingham Co IL.According to this he enlisted July 25, 1861 and was discharged Feb. 22, 1863. He was born in Delphi, Indiana. In 1863 he was 19 years old. If this is an ancestor of yours, I am more than willing to forward the papers to you. Terry Ceballos

Hello All! I hope you had a great holiday season! I am trying to locate a Leonard Reed that was born on 5 August 1903 in GA. He joined the military around 1915 and only returned to SC a couple of times after that. Although it might not be true the family was told he had settled in California after he married a girl from there. This is my great uncle and my Mother has looked for him all of her life. Her father died 50 years ago. Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated. I have checked Social Security, Death Indexes, and the routine methods, but to no avail. I have information on the other generations and I would like to get into contact with someone related to him. Has anyone ran across this name and age group? His parents were John William Reed and Alice Roach. Two of the Leonard's brothers changed the spelling of their name to Reid, although the father and others retained Reed. So I don't know how Leanord spelled his first or last name. Thanks, pat [email protected]

I am researching the Reid family that lived in LaGrange County, Indiana, in 1850 (and possibly before) until 1860 when they moved to Kansas near Wellesville. I found in the 1860 Kansas census that George W. Reid, Jr. was born in Pennsylvania. I am trying to find out where in Pennsylvania. His father, George W. Reid, Sr. lived with Jr. and his wife, Lucinda, and children in Indiana in 1850 when he was listed as 76. Do any of you have information on these people? My great-grandmother, Emma Reid McKaughan, was George Jr. and Lucinda's daughter. All of their children were born in Indiana. Gloria Baikauskas
It is not a very active list. I research the descendants of both Thomas Shannon (wife Mary McKean) who died in Lancaster Co. PA in 1734 and John Reid (wife Jean) who died in the same county in 1752.
