Sherry here. I am amazed at the success others have in locating their Reid lines, especially the latest in regards to the family bible entry in Kentucky. I am happy for all of you, and hope for continued success. I on the other hand I have had success from those on other lists, and appreciate all the help we give each other. Three cheers for the internet!!! Sherry in BC Canada Family names: Reid,McGavin,McGaan,Simister,Gregory,Bonneau,Banas, Crevier
I believe that Don's reply to Kathleen regarding the parents of William W. Reid of Monroe Co. MO is correct. I have a copy of the Family Bible of John Reid and his two wives, Anna Miller and Adaline Philips, listing the birth of William W. Reid on December 2, 1811. This was a Madison Co., KY family which later moved to Monroe Co., MO. I would be happy to supply Kathleen with the complete list of brothers and sisters of Wm. if she has not already gotten it. Since I started this (my apologies to the listowner?), I'd better contribute my REIDs. For those not wishing to delve further, the following REID family migrated from Aberdeen, Scotland in 1883 to Minnehaha Co, South Dakota, then to Hunterdon Co, New Jersey, USA. For the brave, a copy of my Reid FTW Genealogy Report is below my signature. I'd love to hear from anyone with connections or suggestions. Cheers! Mary Jo C. Hello to all REID-listers! I am excited to find out about this list and anxious to post my interests. In the beginning we know of ALEXANDER REID b. approx. 1773 m. June 26, 1796 in Rathven, Banff to Lillias Ross b.1773 in Rathven. Alexander & Lillias had 8 children: Alexander b.1798, Ann b. 1800, Lillias b. 1802, David b. 1805, William b. 1807, Hugh b. 1809, Isabel b. 1811, and John b. 1813, all in Rathven Banff, Scotland. My GGG -Grandfather was HUGH REID m. Elspeth CRAIB b. Keith, Banff, Scotland. They had nine children: Margaret b. about 1844, Alexander b. about 1845 in Scotland, the others were born in Sorel, Quebec, Canada, William b. 1846 d. 1848, William b. 1848, John b. 1852, Hugh b. 1854, Henry b. 1856, Caroline b. 1858, and George b. 1860. Margaret was my GG-Grandmother m. Francois Connant at Notre Dame de Montreal in 1861. >From here although the name ahould have changed to "Connant" in fact many members of the family took the Maternal name of "REID" to save all the misspellings and mispronunciations. Thus many of my cousins are REIDS while I was a Conant. Cinfusion reigns. Hope to help anyone who is interested in our family, and would love to hear from some other REIDS. Thanks. I recently subscribed to this list, and just noticed a message regarding a roll call, so I thought I'd outline my REID interests. Maggie REID is my g-grandmother. She married George PORTEOUS in Toronto in 1874. They lived at 50 Nelson Street (regrettably, a street that is today almost end-to-end parking lots) in central Toronto after they were first married. This home was the residence of Isabella REID (Maggie's mother), widow of Joseph REID. Perhaps because of my g-grandfather's cabinet making trade, they lived in a number of Ontario towns, including Almonte, Stratford, Perth, and Dundas. Maggie died in Dundas, Ontario in 1888, possibly as a result of complications arising from childbirth. She is buried in the Grove Cemetery in Dundas, Ontario. Any information about Maggie REID or her parents would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. --Doug Doug Porteous Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada

My name is Sherry Bonneau and I am looking for information regarding my Grandfather's parents: WILLIAM HENRY REID, William married REBECCA MCGAVIN on the 24 November 1908 and my grandfather was born July 9 1909 and shortly after his birth William Henry left and was never in contact with the family again. I need to locate a marriage license for William and Rebecca, so I can get their parents names and tie them in with the information I have already. I have found a William Henry Reid that seems to fit all my information, but I need to verify it with his parents names. Is there anyone out there who lives in Manitoba that can look up his marriage information and obtain William's parents names and the names of Rebecca's parents? I would really appreciate it. The Reid line I am tracing is from Scotland then to Co Tyrone then to Canada. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thank you, Sherry
I'm here! I keep hoping something will turn up on this list to help me in my search. The earliest Reid I am certain of is Will C. Reid, b. 1844, d. 1906, married to Lucy A. Coleman, b. 1858, d. 1922. I do not know where they were born, but they raised at least 11 children, died, and are buried in Hart County, Kentucky, USA. I don't have all the dates on the children, but I can list them in close to the correct order: (1.) John O. Reid, a photographer, b. 1878, d. 1962, m. Maud Cook; (2.) Harry Reid; (3.) Marie Levina Reid, b. 1881, d. 1932, m. Lester Harlow Lawson; (4.) Leona "Onie" Reid, b. 1883, d. 1965, m. ? Anthony; (5.) Charlie Reid, m. Carrie ?; (6.) Nell Reid, b. 1888, d. 1938, m. Clyde W. Lawson (Lester's brother); (7.) Blanch Reid, b. 1892, d. 1979, m. ? Watkins; (8.) Bryan Reid; (9.) Paul Reid; (10.) Opie W. Reid, b. 1900, d. 1978; (11.) Jack Reid. If anyone out there has any leads for me, I would appreciate it. Christy [email protected] -----Original Message----- From: Mary Jo C. Sherry, the answer to all these questions is very simple, and is contained in that most basic of references, "In search of your Canadian roots: Tracing your family tree in Canada" by Angus Baxter (MacMillan). Hi my name is Sherry Bonneau and I am trying to locate a marriage registration for William Henry Reid and Rebecca McGavin. I am looking for the names of their parents, and possible birth places of the bride and groom. If anyone can try and locate the registration for me I will greatly appreciate it. Or let me know where I can get it myself. The information is as follows: WILLIAM HENRY REID: Father Married Rebecca McGavin 24 November 1908, Manitoba ( we think in Winnipeg) I have their marriage certificate but it does not list their parents names. I wonder if they had to fill out a marriage license, and that could list their parents names and the bride and grooms places of birth. REBECCA MCGAVIN: Mother. She was born in 1870 we believe in Paisly Ontario. Her parents were JAMES MCGAVIN (changed from McGaan) and ELIZABETH WRIGHT. WILFRED HERBERT NORMAN REID: Born July 09 1909 in Winnipeg Manitoba. I have this birth certificate but does not list anything I can use to link the William Henry Reid that I have to the William that is on Wilfred's birth certificate. If I could locate a marriage license that maybe will have William's birth and parent information on it and compare it to the family line I have and if it's the same then I have the right line, and a whole lot of information. BUT I need to verify the William I have is the same guy! PLEASE can someone out there help me!!!!! CAN SOMEONE LOOK THE INFORMATION UP FOR ME? The father William Henry Reid left the family a short time after Wilfred was born. William returned to his family we believe who lived in Ontario. We believe that William was married before marrying Rebecca. She apparently was his housekeeper, and watched his children. Thanks Sherry from Sunny BC Canada

Around that time, they moved to the Glen Lyn area of Giles Co., VA, stayed for several years and then spent their remaining years with their daughter and her husband in Princeton, Mercer Co., WV. Any information or data on the families of the children of John and Sophia (Underwood) Reed would be very much appreciated. I'd be more than happy to share what data I already have on this family should a descendant be interested. Thanks very much, Bob P.S. If possible, please copy any responses to my e-mail address.
