    3. If anyone could help it would be appreciated. I am a decendant of James Jordan Reid, born in Dublin (don't know whether City or Co.) approximately 1820-1825. He came out to Australia prior to 1850. His handwriting leads me to believe that he had a good educational standard. He had the following Children with Eliza Keen and I am hoping that some of the names are familiar with someone out there. I know that he still had a sister living in Ireland when he died in 1895. John Augustus b. 1850 Mary Isabella b. 1854 Christianna b. 1856 Albert b. 1858 Eliza Jane b. 1860 Theodore b. 1862 Roderick b. 1865 Walter b. 1870. The name Jordan comes up through subsequent generations as does the name Christianna, Roderick and Anastasia. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have found difficulty tracing anything back in Ireland. Jaye Reid

    3. Reid list and Mary, My mother in law is a Reid from MS. We are stumped on the roots before early 1800's. There is a possibility that this Reid family started in VA and migrated through SC to MS. Family stories tie the family to a Jackson or Jesse REID in mid 1750's and a earlier George REID (REED or READ). Known family includes Elizabeth ? married ? REID. Elizabeth was born about 1805. Husband may have had initials A. W. Children include J. W., E. W., G. I., E. S., Thomas B., Jackson, Elizabeth, Sarah and William. Elizabeth born about 1826 married A. S. Lenoir. E. S. is probably Enoch S. born about 1828 in MS. Thomas B. was born abt 1832 and died Mar 1863. E. W. is Elbert W. born abt 1834 and married Elizabeth Mullins. Jackson born about 1834 possibly married Martha Mullins. Sarah born abt 1836 married a Gilbert, possible William B. Gilbert. William born about 1841, unknown after 1850. G. I. (or GJ) and J. W. mentioned in Thomas B. REID will possibly older siblings but unknown except in will of brother. Mother Elizabeth is not mentioned in Thomas' probate in 1864. This generation of REID was born in MS and lived mostly in Lawrence, Marion, Copiah, Claiborne and poss. Jefferson counties of MS. If these names ring any bells, or tie to any families on list, would love to hear from you. We need help. Darlene Armstrong [email protected] Burney, CA

    2. Just so you know someone else is out here and watching the Reid postings. I will repost my REID's My REID family comes from the little town of Dunfanghy in Co Donegal Ireland. I assume they came over here in the late 1870's to early 1880's. They were a lttle band of orphans that were sent to live with relitives already here in Philadelphia. Although some were in Canada also. Below is my descendency chart should it look familiar to anyone. The children of George & Jane McCullough Reid were sent to live with relatives. 5 to the US, one to Scotland and the other was fostered out. It was done by the "Orphan society of Ireland". I also may mention that Robert John , my Great Grandfather married his first cousin Elizabeth McKinley. I have found some McKinley relitives in New Zealand. 3. Sherry, I'll try to keep you posted if I uncover any additional information regarding my Reid ancestors. In the meantime (re the McGavins), you might want to try the Toronto city directories, they're online up to about 1878 (when it's up and running) at: http://digit.mtrl.toronto.on.ca:8080. If nothing shows up, then perhaps the entries are after 1878 and therefore not on-line... My URL to the 1871 census (http://130.15.161.15/census/index.html) didn't show any McGavins who were physicians. Good luck. --Doug > -----Original Message----- > From: The Bonneau's [mailto:[email protected]] > Sent: Tuesday, May 16, 2000 3:03 PM > To: [email protected] > Subject: > > > Doug, > my name is Sherry Bonneau and I too am researching my Reid > line. 1. The Bonneau's
    2. Doug, my name is Sherry Bonneau and I too am researching my Reid line. It stems from my mother's side of the family. My grandfather, Wilfred Herbert Norman Reid was born in July 09 1909 in Winnipeg Manitoba. He is the son of Rebecca Reid(McGavin of Paisley Ontario, born 1870), and William Henry Reid ( born 27 Feb. 1860). We believe William is the son of Thomas Reid who is the son of Joseph Reid Jr. from Co Tyrone Ireland. He is also the son of Joseph Reid who fought in the Battle of Waterloo. Joseph was given a parcel of land in Co Tyrone for his service in the battle. He then gave it to his son Joseph Jr. (born 1778). Joseph Jr. married Mary Buchannan and some time later they immigrated to Canada after selling their farm to Lord Jarvis. Joseph and Mary had a son Thomas Reid who married Ann Jane Hunter, and these are William's parents. If this is the right William , then he was married to Emma grills before he married Rebecca McGavin in Winnipeg on 24 November 1908. Your information sounds so familiar, but going through the information I have I can't seem to find your names. I will keep checking as I have two books to go through. BIG BOOKS! Also if any of my information sounds familiar to you I would love to hear back from you. My McGavins are from Scotland then cam to Canada and settled in Ontario, Paisley is one of the areas. Some of them went to Toronto as they were Doctors. any idea how I can locate any information on them (the doctors)? Cheers Sherry from sunny BC

    3. My name is Sherry Bonneau and I am looking for information regarding my Grandfather's parents: WILLIAM HENRY REID, and Rebecca McGavin. William married REBECCA MCGAVIN on the 24 November 1908 and my grandfather was born July 9 1909 and shortly after his birth William Henry left and was never in contact with the family again. I have found information that leads me to believe that I have found my William Henry Reid. But I need to locate a marriage license or something else that would give me the name of his parents. On the wedding certificate that I have it does not list his parents names,I need that to verify I do have the right William. and if so then I have all his lineage back to Scotland.I need to locate a marriage license for William and Rebecca, so I can get their parents names and tie them in with the information I have already. Does anyone know how I can verify that I do have the right man? I am corresponding with a lady of William's line but she will not accept us until we come up with a document that has his parents names on it. It will have to be a document that links him with Rebecca Reid(McGavin) his wife. Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated. This has been a difficult task for me. I need some fresh input from all you pros!!!!!! :) Cheers sherry in sunny BC Thank you, Sherry

    1. John Reid of VA, KY & MO
    2. Don L. Fox
    3. Hello Reid researchers, I have transcribed the will of the John Reid who was born in VA in 1774, lived & married Anna Miller in Madison Co., KY, and died in Monroe Co., MO in 1857. It names all but one of his children, and what he had given to them and left to them. It names some of his children's spouses and some of his grand children. It also names his second wife, Adaline, who he married in Monroe Co., MO and their daughter, Mary Ann. This John Reid was the son of John Reid and Mary (Polly) Woods who lived in VA and died in Madison Co., KY. It is quite long but if you are interested in a copy, I can send it to you as an attachment. If you have info. about either of these John Reids that you have not already sent me, please contact me to compare notes. Don L. Fox [email protected]

    2. Doug Porteous
    3. Hi, Don. Guess it's time to restate my interests, so thanks for the reminder :) :). Maggie REID, born in Toronto ca. 1852, is my g-grandmother. She married George PORTEOUS in Toronto in 1874. They lived at 50 Nelson Street (regrettably, a street that is today almost end-to-end parking lots) in central Toronto after they were first married. This home was the residence of Isabella REID (Maggie's mother), widow of Joseph REID, and presumably where Maggie's sister Maria (a witness to their wedding) also lived. Perhaps because of my g-grandfather's cabinet making trade, they lived in a number of Ontario towns, including Almonte, Stratford, Perth, and Dundas. Maggie died in Dundas, Ontario in 1888, possibly as a result of complications arising from childbirth. She is buried in the Grove Cemetery in Dundas, Ontario. Any information about Maggie REID or her parents would be greatly appreciated.
