    1. AMANDA REED or REID b abt 1878
    2. Debra Catron
    3. I am searching for AMANDA REED OR REID who was born in Towns Co GA. She appears on the 1880 Towns Co census with her brother and parents. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Children of ZACHARIAS T. REED and SARAH CLARK are: i. ROBERT CALVIN REED, b. March 05, 1869, Towns Co. , GA; d. July 26, 1932, Jackson County, GA. ii. AMANDA REED, b. Abt. 1878, Towns Co. , GA; d. Unknown. Notes for AMANDA REED: To date, no other record of Amanda Reed has been found. By 1900, if she were still living she would have been about 22 years old and most likely married. I have found no marriage record for Amanda Reed in Towns Co. There is no Amanda about this age in all of the 1900 Towns Co Ga census records. She could have moved or be listed by another first name. Do not know if there were more children of Z T and Sarah J (Clark) Reed. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. 1. Sales on Genealogy List
    2. I didn't intend for this to become an argument. I wrote Wayne Zimmer off list to try to explain after he had responded, off list, to my initial statement. He neglected to include my follow up message when he sent the message to the list. I only want to explain my stand on this issue. I don't think you should advertise merchandise for sale on a genealogy list unless it is for a genealogical organization and even that should be kept to a minimum. That is the way I understand the guide rules. I am printing below my response to Wayne that he neglected to send to the list: Hello Wayne, Let's see, I was commenting on two booklets (not really books) that were advertised on a genealogy list, which are specifically not for selling anything, for a believe $75 or $85, I don't recall which. The fact that I paid $15.00 for the two booklets, and I found nothing useful in them, has nothing to do with what I would re-sell them for. If they were advertised for $75.00, and I was willing to sell them for $50.00, I think that would be a "good deal" for someone. They could save $25.00 by paying me my price rather than the higher price. That's the way commerce works. I sell what I have for the most that I can get. You pay what you can afford for what you desire, or do without if I am unwilling to sell for your price. Thanks for your note. Gordon Reid Hale Grand Prairie, Texas If you are truly interested in purchasing the booklets because you are a Reid descendant let me know and I will make you a price. Not $15.00 though. I have been in business too long not to realize a profit on anything that I do. I neglected to say one thing: I didn't make the statement of taking $50.00 in a true offer to sell; but in satire. Thanks for the opportunity to respond to a profiteering accusation. Gordon Hale

    3. I guess I dont see making available some family research or coordinated history as "selling or advertising" . I do see it as selling if you paid 15dollars, used it and now offer the same for sale at 50 dollars. If you didnt get much from it why didn't you ask for your l5 dollars back. The fact that some people do purchase these materials i.e. you, tells me that there are those of us that appreciate the time and effort some one else expends in the search of knowledge that may be of some interest and use. In life as in geneology I have found that "doing" is always better then "bitching" . Would you resell for 15 dollars or less now since it is "used'??? ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, August 31, 2000 11:12 AM Subject: Re: REID-D Digest V00 #48 > I thought that there was to be no advertising on the list > > In addition to that I purchased these two "books", "Reads, Reids, Reades, > etc." about 2 years past and the price was less that $15.00. 1. Jonathan Reid/Reed and Sarah Gatten
    2. Lois Masters
    3. I am new to this list and am seeking information on the family of Jonathan Reid/Reed and Sarah Gatten. This couple were from Maryland and removed to Loudoun Co., Virginia before immigrating on to Adams Co., Ohio. Probable children of this couple include: William Howard Reed born 23 Mar 1793 in Virginia or Maryland. William Howard Reed married Ruth Potts 1818 in Loudoun Co., Va. Ruth was the daughter of Enos and Lydia Potts. William Howard Reed lived at Franklin twp, Adams Co., Ohio Jesse Gipson Reed born 1806 in Virginia. Jesse Gipson Reed married Mahala. Jesse was also of Franklin twp, Adams Co., Ohio. James Addison Reed was of Franklin twp, Adams Co., Ohio. James Addison Reed married Mary Jane. George Reed married Louisa (or Lurenah or Lovenha or Lousan). George was also of Franklin twp, Adams Co., Ohio. Sarah Reed born 3 Nov 1802 in Maryland; married John Wright in March 1827. This couple were of Meigs twp, Adams Co., Ohio. The Reed land straddled both Meigs and Franklin townships in Adams Co., Ohio. Some of it even went into Brown Co., Ohio. Would appreciate any information on this family - and of course, would certainly appreciate documented evidence on this family. I will share - I have been extracting all Adams Co., Ohio land records involving these men. Thanks so much Lois ===== My personal website: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~virginiawesttooregon __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! 2. I thought that there was to be no advertising on the list In addition to that I purchased these two "books", "Reads, Reids, Reades, etc." about 2 years past and the price was less that $15.00. They might be called books but they are more like reports. They are Xeroxed or mimeographed and stapled together. I got nothing for them and will be glad to sell them for $50.00, not $75.00. I am not really trying to sell my books but I wish others wouldn't do so on a genealogical site. Gordon Hale

    1. Hamilton and Fleming Reed of mid-1800s Floyd Co.,VA
    2. I was just wondering whether anyone on the list would know the parents of a Hamilton (bc 1818) and Fleming Reed (bc 1820). Hamilton shows up as a head-of-household in the 1850 Floyd Co.,VA Census with Fleming (his younger brother?), a few older women (Sarah Reed and Nancy Idings) and a young girl (Sarah, age 12). Extracted/edited from the 1850 Floyd Co. Census study: Reed, Hamilton bc 1818 FCVA, s/o ?. 1850 #220: Hamilton Reed, m-32-FCVA-farmer-$0. Reed, Fleming bc 1820 FCVA, s/o ?. 1850 #220: Fleming, m-30-FCVA. ------- Reed, Sarah bc 1795 FCVA. 1850 #220: Sarah Reed, f-55-FCVA, with Hamilton Reed as HOF. (The mother of Hamilton and Fleming above?) Idings, Nancy bc 1790 FCVA. 1850 #220: Nancy Idings, f-60-FCVA, with Hamilton Reed as HOF. (An older sister of Sarah's?) Reed, Sarah bc 1838 FCVA. 1850 #220: Sarah Reed, f-12-FCVA, with Hamilton Reed as HOF. (Hamilton or Fleming's sister? daughter? Any clue or insight as to the parents of Hamilton and Fleming Reed mentioned above would be appreciated. Who knows? They could have been Irish immigrants with no previous family in VA, and thus no way to tie them in with another Floyd Co. Reed line. But then again.... Just wondering, Bob

    2. THE BELLBROOK MOON WEDNESDAY - JUNE 19, 1895 BELLBROOK, OHIO SUGARCREEK TOWNSHIP Hon. Whitelow REID, arrived here from Europe too late to see his mother before she died. She had the honor of being the mother of the most distinguished son that was ever raised in Greene County. Mr. REID was a candidate for Vice President of the United States at the last election, and is the proprietor of the New York Tribune, one of the leading newspapers of the U.S. Mrs. REID was buried in the Tarbox Cemetery near the old home. Her spirit is now with loved ones over on the golden shore. Debbie I have no connection with the REID surname, I just ran across this article and thought I'd post it to the list. ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! 1. Westmorland and Scotland Reid's
    2. Colin Reid
    3. Hi Listers, My earliest REID's come from Scotland and then moved on to England. The family consisted of Robert (a Gardener up to 1826 and subsequently a Road Surveyor), born somewhere in Scotland c1795, his wife Margaret DICK born somewhere in Scotland c1793 (no marriage record found, and also unable to identify their places of birth) and their children born as follows: Janet born Dalquharran, Dailly, Ayrshire on 18 November 1819' Euphemia born Dalquharran, Dailly, Ayrshire on 24 June 1821, Archibald born Dalquharran, Dailly, Ayrshire on 4 April 1923, Georgina born Walker, Eaglesham, Renfrew on 13 January 1826, and Robert born Dalkeith, Midlothian on 8 November 1829 By the time of the English 1841 Census they were located in Kendal, Westmorland. Robert the father died on 8 January 1844, and his son Robert (my own 2nd Great Grandfather) went on to be a Saddler and later Coach Trimmer at Bowness, Windermere, marrying Ann CARTMEL(L). Hoping there might be a connection out there somewhere. Regards, Colin

    3. ----- Original Message ----- From: The Bonneau's To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, May 16, 2000 11:59 AM Subject: Reids My name is Sherry Bonneau and I am looking for information regarding my Grandfather's parents: WILLIAM HENRY REID, and Rebecca McGavin. William married REBECCA MCGAVIN on the 24 November 1908 and my grandfather was born July 9 1909 and shortly after his birth William Henry left and was never in contact with the family again. I have found information that leads me to believe that I have found my William Henry Reid. But I need to locate a marriage license or something else that would give me the name of his parents. On the wedding certificate that I have it does not list his parents names,I need that to verify I do have the right William. and if so then I have all his lineage back to Scotland.I need to locate a marriage license for William and Rebecca, so I can get their parents names and tie them in with the information I have already. Does anyone know how I can verify that I do have the right man? I am corresponding with a lady of William's line but she will not accept us until we come up with a document that has his parents names on it. It will have to be a document that links him with Rebecca Reid(McGavin) his wife. Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated. This has been a difficult task for me. I need some fresh input from all you pros!!!!!! :) Cheers sherry in sunny BC Thank you, Sherry
