No I have no Reids in Scotland, at least not after 1800 or there abouts. My Reids are from Ireland, County Derry (or Londonderry if you prefer), although it is probable that they came from Scotlland originally in some dim dark reach of time. Let me tell you that the resarching of ancestors in Scotland is much easier than the search in Ireland. Does anyone on the list have any Reids from any part of Ireland either North or South. 3. I don't suppose anyone has ever run across Innes Traill Reid, son of William Reid and Isabel Tormatson, both of Olrig, I believe. Innes married Isabella Sinclair and had seven children. One of those children, James, came to Canada around 1843, and I would love to find information on the other six. Did they stay in Scotland, or did some of them emigrate to the colonies?

    1. REID and CRAIB (also Annette Conant-Reed r u subscribed?)
    2. Lionel
    3. My gg-grandfather was William Reid, who emigrated to New Zealand on the "Travancore" arriving Lyttelton 31st March 1851. He was born in the town of Banff, Banffshire on 11th June 1823. From an LDS search, it seems highly likely that he is the same William Reid that is recorded as being christened on 22 June 1823 in Banff, with parents Mother: Jane CRAIB Father: Alexr. REID These particular names in anyone's family tree? On 10 Apr 2000 Annette Conant-Reed wrote to the REID list (and later to the Banffshire list), with now defunct e-mail addresses, including the following information: Her gggg-grandfather was ALEXANDER REID b. approx. 1773 m. June 26, 1796in Rathven, Banff to Lillias Ross b.1773 in Rathven. Alexander & Lillias had 8 children: ALEXANDER b.1798, Ann b. 1800, Lillias b. 1802, David b. 1805, William b. 1807, Hugh b. 1809, Isabel b. 1811, and John b. 1813, all in Rathven Banff, Scotland. Her ggg-grandfather was HUGH REID m. Elspeth CRAIB b. Keith, Banff, Scotland. They had nine children: Margaret b. about 1844, Alexander b. about 1845 in Scotland, the others were born in Sorel, Quebec, Canada, William b.1846 d. 1848, William b. 1848, John b. 1852, Hugh b. 1854, Henry b. 1856, Caroline b. 1858, and George b. 1860. So, I surmised that maybe... Her gggg-grandfather Alexander's son Alexander born in 1798 could be William's father. The dates could fit, as Alexander (junior) would be about 25 when William was born. Furthermore, as William's mother was Jane CRAIB, and her ggg-grandfather married Elspeth CRAIB, there are common female surnames - i.e. Jane and Elspeth could have been sisters or cousins, as seemed quite common in those days. Possible linkage, or just too many people living in a small area with the same surname? Lionel Klee, New Zealand
