Hi Joe, I read your posting on the Reeves site and may have some information which might help. At least I think it's your Reeves......... His name is John Valentine Reeves, born February 14, 1887, Fowler, Benton County, Indiana. His registration card for the 1917-1918 draft registration says he is a farm laborer for W. J. Lawson in Chase, Indiana. He mentions a wife and two children, but not their names. He is of medium height, slender, light brown eyes with dark brown hair. I found this same John V. Reeves on the 1900 census living in Boone, Centralia County, Missouri. I believe he is the same John V. Reeves because the census lists his birthday as February 1887. So, it connects up well, might be a coincidence, but I would definitely check it out. The census reads as follows: Head of Family: Jennie Paterson, born Jan. 1854, age 46, born Illinois, both of her parents born Vermont. It says she is married for 26 years, but no husband is living with the family and she is listed as the head of the family. She is the mother of nine children with eight of those children living. John V. Reeves, son. February 1887, age 13 yrs. born Indiana, father, Ind. mother, Ill. Mattie E. Reeves, dau. Sept. 1889, age 10 yrs., born Indiana, father, Indiana, mother Ill. Jennie E. Reeves, dau. February 1893, age 7 yrs. born Indiana, father Indiana, mother Ill. Most likely the father, Reeves, died and she remarried a Paterson and who knows where he was? The kids all have the Reeves surname. I would suggest checking Benton County, Indiana, resources for a Reeves name since this is where John V. Reeves was born. Benton County is right on the Illinois border. You may also have some luck by going to Google and typing in Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness for Indiana. See if you can find someone to help you from Benton County. These are volunteers and I've had wonderful luck with some of them. Good Luck in your search. Hi Joe, Based on the family headed by Jennie Paterson in 1900, I looked for a Jennie Reeves in the 1880 census who was born in Illinois in 1854. I found the following family. 1880 Census (Jun 7, 1880) Mazon, Grundy County, Illinois REAVES, John - Head of Household - age 28 born in Illinois REAVES, Jennie - Wife - age 27 (1873/74) born in Illinois REAVES, Nelson - Son - age 8 born in Illinois REAVES, Maggie - Daughter - age 5 born in Illinois REAVES, Charles A - Son - age 2 born in Illinois I would do some more research, but the dates and places match. The surname REAVES and REEVES were interchangeable from one census to another. This could be the parents of your John V. Reeves.
